What We Know

Episode 1x01 - "Origins"

  • Nathan was in an accident six months ago (This accident was later shown in Episode 10: Six Months Ago) and Peter felt it when it happened, suggesting a special connection between the two brothers.
  • Nathan is running for Congress and is thus far only concerned with his career and keeping his family issues out of view of the voters.
  • Seemed to dismiss Peter when told about his dreams of flying.
  • Came to meet Peter in an alley when he received the phone call. Peter jumped from the top of the building falling to the ground where Nathan was watching. Nathan flew up and caught Peter before he hit the ground.

Feats: Flying to rescue Peter

Episode 1x02 - "Don't Look Back"

  • When Peter wakes up in the hospital, Nathan tries to convince him that he tried to commit suicide and landed on a fire exape, but Peter remembers Nathan flying.
  • Nathan meets Peter on the hospital rooftop and admits that he did fly and that Peter did also. Peter thinks he is lying, until Nathan points out that he is hovering above the ground at that moment.

Episode 1x03 - "One Giant Leap"

  • Nathan Petrelli is preparing for an evening event when Peter comes in. Peter wants to talk about their flying ability and shows Nathan the book, “Activating Evolution.” Its cover bears the cursive S (hereafter “the Symbol”) shown so often in the series. Peter’s tried to track down the author, Chandra Suresh and discovered that he’s in New York. Nathan tries to brush him off, and tells him that a reporter has been looking into Peter’s “accident.” They can’t let her find out the truth.
  • At a fund raising party Nathan climbs to the podium, breaking the awkward moment between Peter and Simone. Nathan talks about his father’s depression and suicide, and then announces that Peter’s “accidental” fall from a building was actually a suicide attempt. Peter bolts from the room, furious.
  • Nathan’s about to get into his car when Peter charges up and punches him. He’s found out that Nathan lied about the reporter. Nathan claims it was only a matter of time before one got on the story, and he headed it off by saying what he did. Peter hits him again, and then storms off.

Graphic Novel Chapter 3: "Trial By Fire

  • Nathan is seen walking down the street. In a scene that looks like it took place after Episode 2, (note the handkerchief Nathan is holding which is similar to the one he was sporting on the rooftop during "Don't Look Back"), but it could have been after chapter 3. He is thinking back about the conversation he and Peter had about their powers. "Peter is sure he...we have super powers...He can live in the clouds but I have an election to run." But then he sees something in the distance and gasps.
  • Nathan wittinesses an apartment building engulfed in flames. The NYC Fire Department are on the scene, and a woman shouts about her daughter being trapped on the fourth floor.
  • Nathan realizes that the NYC department will not be able to help the child in time and under the mask of the chaos, he decides to fly up and save her. He doesn't believe he is doing it either, as he pinches himself three times, "Third pinch, definitely awake." He also comments that this is something Pete would do that he is the dreamer, and what he is doing is insane.
  • He enters the room through the window and informs the frighten young woman that he has her and will bring her to safely. He covers her with his jacket and carries her as he flies out the window with only seconds to spare as the room summits to the fire. "Pete. Eat your heart out."
  • Safely on the street. Nathan asks if the woman is okay. She says she is and tells him thank you as she coughs. Right before the woman, Sheila's, mother arrives, Nathan leaves concealing his identity. She is revealed to see her daughter is safe but asks her how this was possible. She mentions an angel wrapped her in his coat and flew her to safety. The mother looks at the coat and notes the "Vote Petrelli" button. "Huh...And I was going to vote for the other guy."
  • Episode 1x04 - "Collision"

    • Nathan tries to bribe Peter into leaving the city for awhile, which Peter admirably declines.
    • Next thing we know, Niki's politician she's supposed to set up is none other than Nathan. After an uncomfortable conversation about spouses and children, Nathan makes a move and Niki leaves, only to be stopped at the elevator by one of Linderman's henchmen. Niki's other side takes over and this time we actually get to see it. She beats the crap out of the henchmen, warns him about threatening Micah ever again, and then goes back to Nathan to have her way with him.

    Episode 1x05 - "Hiros"

    • Hotel parking lot, Las Vegas. Mr. Bennet and the Haitian escort Nathan, in his pajama bottoms, from the building. Nathan fails to intimidate them, and is convinced they’re kidnapping him for ransom. When Mr. Bennet’s phone rings, Nathan breaks free and sprints across the lot. The others chase him, Bennet with a gun drawn. Nathan reaches a fence and tries to climb, but doesn’t make it before the others reach him. Bennet orders the Haitian to shut Nathan down, but before he can, Nathan crouches and launches himself into the air. As Bennet and the Haitian watch, Nathan changes course in a pop of vapor and makes a contrail across the sky.
    • Nathan’s hotel room, Las Vegas. Nathan’s assistant enters and awakens Niki, demanding to know where Nathan is. Niki doesn’t know. She doesn’t know where she is or how she got there. Disgusted, the assistant orders her to dress and come with him. Before she can, Ms. Sakamoto, Mr. Linderman’s assistant, enters. If Nathan’s assistant wants to find his boss, he ought to look at the security footage. The assistant leaves the room; Sakamoto remains to congratulate Niki on her work the night before. Niki is convinced she had not gone through with the plan until Sakamoto shows her footage of Niki with Nathan. Niki’s confused, but she’s allowed to go home with her debt to Linderman repaid.
    • Hiro sees Nathan coming in for a landing outside of a dinner.
    • Nathan enters the diner, attracting stares and muffled laughter. He acknowledges the humor of the situation, and asks for a cell-phone. Hiro watches in awe. He then sits down at the counter and orders coffee, and one of the t-shirts the counter attendant is wearing.
    • Nathan sits at the counter. Hiro joins him, staring in excitement until Nathan acknowledges him. They introduce themselves. Hiro saw Nathan fly, although Nathan denies it. Hiro will keep his secret because he too is special, bending time and space, teleporting into the future. Nathan thinks he’s crazy, but listens warily as Hiro talks about the explosion that is coming and his plans to stop it. A car pulls into the parking lot outside and Nathan gets up to leave. Before he gets to the door he stops, wondering if Hiro’s glimpse of the future showed whether Nathan won the election. Hiro remembers the newspaper from his final minutes in future New York. Nathan will win by a landslide. Hiro asks for a ride back to Las Vegas, and Nathan sees no harm in it.
    • Casino parking lot, Las Vegas. Hiro and Nathan step out of Nathan’s limo and say their good-byes. Hiro takes his luggage to the car he and Ando rented, throws it into the back and climbs in the driver’s side. He’s excited about driving, but after he accidentally turns on the wipers, it’s clear he has no idea how. He finds instructions in the glove box, but they’re written in English.
    • Casino Lobby, Las Vegas. Nathan wants to talk to Sakamoto. As his assistant goes to arrange this, Nathan sees Niki crossing the lobby. He accuses her of having something to do with what happened to him, but she accuses him of having something to do with what happened to her. She doesn’t know what happened. Nathan tells her. Niki tells him she only remembers turning him down. When she met him, she was trying to be someone she wasn’t. She wants to be someone good, not the person she sees in the mirror. Nathan tries to reassure her. She tells him they blackmailed her into doing what she did, and that now they’re going to blackmail him. Linderman’s people taped them together.
    • Casino office, Las Vegas. Nathan’s checking out. Sakamoto tells him that his men are worried about him. Nathan’s fine, but not happy with the security in the hotel. Sakamoto apologizes and insists that his stay be complimentary. Nathan asks how the tape turned out. Sakamoto calls it a favor he may repay one day. Nathan’s campaign is built on family values, and a public airing of the tape would ruin him. Nathan asks about his four million dollars. Sakamoto argues. It was two, and it was generous. Nathan agrees, but Linderman must really want Nathan to win if he went through so much trouble to blackmail him. Two million buys Linderman a candidate. Four million buys him a congressman. Nathan smiles.

    Episode 1x06 - "Better Halves"

    • Nathan does not appear in this episode.

Episode 1x07 - "Nothing to Hide"

    • Scene starts with Nathan inquiring with Heidi about which postcard he should use in his campaign. After she chooses the same one as his mother, he makes a comment about it being some kind of red flag.
    • Angela then informs Nathan that a member from the press is coming to interview the family during Family Brunch. Nathan asks her if she was kidding. And she responds "I never kid about family brunch." "That is because we never have Family brunch."
    • Nathan says that he doesn't need the interview for his campaign, but Heidi says that since they are 4 points behind that they do. That isn't made out of glass and that she can handle the meeting. Nathan reluctlantly agrees.
    • The meeting starts and Nathan makes a comment about dressing up when Peter arrives in every day clothes. Peter too makes a comment about how they don't have Family Brunch.
    • Angela greets her son, Nathan is visually annoyed, and Heidi is quite amused.
    • Nathan excuses himself and tells Peter that whatever it is, now is not the time. Peter informs Nathan that Charles is dead. Nathan says he is sorry and asks if he was there. No because he quit his job to find out what is happening to the two of them.

Peter asks if he is not family enough for family brunch.

Nathan says no if he is going to ruin his campaign.

Peter announces that he has to call Linderman to get one of Isaac's paintings.

Nathan shhs Peter telling him that they are not exactly broadcasting their connection. Peter repeats that he needs the picture to save the world. Nathan tells Peter that he doesn't have time for this sorry. Peter smiles and suggests that maybe he will go fly and race him to the Empire State Building because he can fly, and Nathan can do.

"You wouldn't!?" Peter just smiles and walks away rejoining the table.

    • The reporter mentions that the Linderman organization recently invested a lot of money to his campaign. Nathan notes that it shouldn't be a surprise because he was one of his father's clients and asked if this was the real reason for the meeting.

The reporter continues that he heard about a "scare" where he was missing from the hotel for a few hours and that there was a blonde involved. Everyone seems intrigued, but Nathan seems tongue tied.

Peter saves the day and tells Nathan that it is okay, that he doesn't care if anyone knows, and continues that Nathan arranged a woman doctor to consult him about his mental health issues. That his brother saved his life. Nathan confirms the story.

    • Later Heidi asks if Nathan still loves her, he does. That understands what the chair means for them as a couple but that she will walk again that she just needs hope.
    • Later, Nathan comes to visit Peter and tells him that Linderman won't give up the painting. It is a lie, because we also later see a scene with Nathan telling Linderman to send the painting to the gallery because he doesn't want to think what his brother would do without the painting.

Peter tells Nathan to tell Heidi the truth. Peter says no she needs to have hope and he just had to be with someone that doesn't make him feel guilty each time he sees her.

Nathan starts to leave but stops to tell Peter that there was something else that he should tell him about the hotel. That he was kidnapped. That the man that did all the talking wore Horned-Rimmed Classes and there was some spooky euro dude.

Peter asked how he got away. Nathan said that he flew. Peter says that he doesn't believe him but Nathan says that he is not lying. What does he expect would happen if people figured out what they could do? They would study them. That he can fly, but he doesn't have a gun, or a badge, or knows karate. The only thing useful would be flying around and saving cats from trees.

Peter suggests that he could at least try. Nathan leaves, but tells Peter to be careful. Peter says okay.

    • Simone tells Nathan that the painting is part of a set painted by Isaac, a rising artist. And that Peter believes that he can paint the future. Nathan rolls his eyes, "Yeah, right. Union Wells High School?" Simone later adds that Peter believes that he has to be there to Save Cheerleader and to save the world.
    • Looking at the picture again, Nathan asks, "Is that supposed to be Peter?" Simone looks at the picture and frowns, "I don't know." Visibly disturbed, Nathan opens up a nearby paint can and splatters paint all over the painting before Simone can stop him.

      Simone: "What are you doing?"

Nathan: My brother has these delusions of grandeur, he thinks he is supposed to make a difference. I'm saving his life. Do you believe him? Future paintings? The end of the world?

    • Simone is upset that Nathan destroyed the painting, she doesn't know if she believes or not, but the question remains, if Nathan didn't believe why did he destroy the painting?
