While those who follow the spoilers we post know that there has been talk of the upcoming villian, that doesn't stop fans from hatching their own theories.
On her blog Amy Reads says:
Quote: In NBC's new drama, Heroes, one of the characters, Niki Sanders, is a single mother who made a Very Bad Decision by borrowing money from some unsavory ruffians. When said ruffians come forward to collect the money she doesn't have, and then demand that they be allowed to rape Niki to "lower her loan," Niki loses time. When she wakes, she discovers that the odd reflections that she has seen of herself in mirrors have, it seems, slaughtered said ruffians without Niki ever even knowing it.
Now this show is titled Heroes, yes? And what do Heroes never, ever do, Gentle Reader?
Correct. Heroes never, ever kill.
(Well, except they do sometimes. But that's another post.)
Let us look further at Niki Sanders and what we know of Hero Creation.
1) She is desperate to protect her family. 2) She is in financial ruin. 3) She has been sexually threatened. 4) Her superpower is uncontrollable, as in, she doesn't know how to use it. It acts on its own accord. 5) Said superpower *kills*. 6) Said superpower also has a selfish core; it does things solely for her benefit. As a replication of self, or a mirror-image of her basest desires, this is particularly interesting. 7) She allows said superpower to kill without turning herself in to the authorities (see Buffy the Vampire Slayer "Dead Things" for an example of how heroes are traditionally supposed to treat situations such as this).
Few of these things really scream Hero Creation, do they? But they should be familiar to us, Gentle Reader, because they scream Creation Of Another Kind.
My theory, therefore, is that the character of Niki Sanders is not a burgeoning hero, but rather, a burgeoning villain. Do you have any theories? |

Kent over at Benfer's Blog has pointed out the same thing that many fans have pointed out since the Pilot aired, Odessa Texas is barren land.
Quote: I do have one issue, though, this the portrayal of Odessa on Heroes. If you have been to Odessa, which unfortunately I have, you will know that there are no trees and no hills. Odessa is oil country and it is desolate and barren land. In Heroes the other night, they showed trees and hills around Odessa. I can understand not filming there, but shouldn?t NBC try and be a little more realistic and believable? Source Benfer's Blog |

It seems that Keith McDuffee has been able to do what no one else has been able to do (so far). Drudge up a group of people who do not like Heroes. In his article Heroes fans, prepare to hate me, McDuffee takes a few stabs at the show, explaining that there needs to be more humor, better special effects, etc. In the end McDuffee explains that he wants to love the show and will give it more time to grow on him, but so far he just isn't digging it. Well that is fine and not the first Heroes review with a slightly negative slant, but the bashing doesn't take place here. Look toward the comment section of this article for the bashing that is inevitable when you are talking about a hit show.
Here are some snippits: Quote: I know they are trying to establish all of the charcters and everything, but none of them are very interesting. Quote: I didn't even make it halfway through. Too bad. Quote: The show lacks originality. The only thing it has going for it is it's production values. But, I mean flying, healing, teleporting...At least The 4400 thought of some new super powers people could have. Quote: Heroes is shallow. Comparing the show to a comic book movie is actually quite fitting, because as a fan of actual comic books all I can say is that it lacks depth While there are quite a few positive comments as well, this is the largest grouping of negative Heroes comments that I have seen to date. If this gets your blood boiling hop over to tvsquad and leave some comments of your own! |

Bloggersblog talks about Tim Kring's liveblog and Q/A session during the Pilot episode of Heroes.
Quote: The bottom line is this: if you want to be the next J.J. Abrams, Aaron Sorkin or Tim Kring, you better brush up on your blogging skills. Because it's not enough to write a hit show anymore. You have to interact with fans online, liveblog events and be ready with the pithy (yet not too revealing) commentary. Writing for tv sure isn't what it used to be. Read the article |

Well, we made it! The season has now officially begun. With all of the online buzz surrounding the show before it ever aired, you would probably expect that there would be a lot of web chatter about the show the day after it aired. And you would be right! Here are what some people online are saying about Heroes:
BlogDig :: Heroes: Genesis (series premiere) Quote: Right off, this beautifully made pilot, with its luscious photography and rich soundtrack grabbed me. The action spans the globe from India, to rural Texas, to Tokyo, and each location is richly realized. Just on a technical level this pilot was the most effective I've seen this season. Clearly NBC is behind the series. Despite all the globe-trotting, most of the action slowly begins to gather around New York City -- just like in Marvel Comics. Another good sign about this series: it is not shy or embarrassed about acknowledging its root inspiration in comics. One character, Hiro Nakamura (played by Masi Oka), is a Trekkie and an X-Men fan. Not coincidentally, he is the one character with little trouble accepting his abilities, nor has he any trouble conceiving what to use them for. They're going to need a guy like him, as many of the others are understandably confused and frightened by their developing abilities...
Full Review The Once And Future Lawyer :: Heroes Pilot Review (Re-review really)Quote: As far as what I saw and wrote my initial review on, and what I saw for the most part tonight, the shows were largely the same. I don't recall the brother falling in the end, but I may have stopped paying attention; the preview for next week shows he must not have been too far off the ground, so good for him. Why he dropped his cell phone instead of his shoe is beyond me since they play up the fact he isn't that well off. I am glad the artist overdosed instead of whatever he did in the older version (I seem to recall someone asking for a tourniquet, but I could be remembering wrong and that's okay because that was sort of an odd twist anyway).
Full Review Walking Along My Path :: Heroes Flies High, Sudio 60 Still Rock SolidQuote: Tonight was the long-anticipated (for me, at least) premiere of the new NBC show Heroes.
The show tells the story of a group of people, scattered around the world, who discover that they have special abilities, far beyond those of normal men and women. Show creator Tim Kring has said on multiple occasions that he's not a comic book guy and he's not doing a comic book super hero show.
He's wrong.
Kring and his team are doing what is, perhaps, the best comic book super hero show ever made.
It's not focusing on special effects. It's not dazzling us with super egos and high ideals. It's not pretending to take itself seriously while winking heartily at the audience. It's not focusing on the powers.
Full Review The Anthill :: Heroes. Quote: I was really happy with the episode. It was a bit of a slow burn - lots of characters to introduce and plot elements to set into motion - but it sustained my interest. The writers managed to keep the tone of the show serious despite the rather implausible things that happen, and yet they still have a sense of humour about the whole thing, mostly shown through the characer of Hiro. There seems to be a long-term plan for the show (hell, the introduction of the episode called it the beginning of their "epic tale"). I'm definitely going to stick around to see how things play out, and I'd encourage you to do the same.
Full Review Deanish :: Heroes - PilotQuote: Though the concept behind Heroes isn?t original, its pilot episode was really well executed. They kept the story moving along without getting too wrapped up in any one particular facet of the show, and left me only wanting more. I?m looking forward to next week?s episode.
Full Review Sooth Slayer :: NBC's HeroesQuote: i just watched the prerelease pilot of NBC's Heroes. kind of dissapointing. i still want to see the real pilot b/c the editing was sort of poor but that is to be expected. but editing and missing special effects aside it was still pretty disappointing. acting was bad. the characters are kind of 2 dimensional. seemed kind of forced
Full Review The Stout Republican :: HeroesQuote: While some I have talked to have commented on the slow moving story of the first episode, I like the build up, I like to get attached to and get the back story of each character (at least the characters I like?.Hiro especially).

 Benjamin Ong Pang Kean writes:
Quote: NBC?s newest series, Heroes, debuts tonight at 9.00pm.
Created by Tim Kring (Crossing Jordan), the series follows the lives of people from all over the world who suddenly discover that they have super-powers.
In addition to the TV series, there?s also a series of weekly online comics written by members of the writing staff, including writers familiar to comic book fans such as Jeph Loeb (who is also co-executive producer) and Aron Coleite (V.I.C.E., The Covenant, Proximity Effect). Each webisode will be ?published? to coincide with each new episode and will feature artwork by Michael Turner, Jim Lee, Tim Sale and others.
We caught up with one of the writers, Aron Coleite, to find out more details about the online comics.
?Heroes is a series about ordinary people who get extraordinary people. Doing comic books is just natural. But we wanted to do this right,? Coleite explained to Newsarama.
?We have an amazing staff of writers. Of course, the inaffable, Jeph Loeb. Jesse Alexander. Bryan Fuller. Michael Green. Joe Pokaski.
?Couple that with Michael Turner and his team at Aspen, Jim Lee and Wildstorm and Tim Sale -- we had the right combination of talent to do these webcomics right.
?We're going to do one a week to correspond to the episodes,? he continued. ?Michael Turner and Aspen are doing the first four. Jim Lee and Wildstorm are doing the second four. And if we can tear Tim Sale away from all of the great work he's doing on the series, maybe he'll do one or two. We've been so lucky to work with these amazing artists.
?The webcomics will premiere on NBC.com after the show. So, watch the show. Then log in.?
As viewers learn more about Isaac Mendez, Niki Sanders, Peter Petrelli, Nathan Petrelli, Hiro Nakamura, Claire Bennet, and others, those who check out the weekly online comics will discover new things about each of the characters. According to Coleite, the webcomics will tie in ?directly to the episode you just watched. Filling in or expanding on one of the stories. Sometimes they're back stories. Sometimes they're scenes that you didn't see in the episode. It broadens the experience of Heroes.
?The stories will revolve around the characters from the show. Each week we will focus on a different character. This gives us the chance to go deeper into the characters and reveal experiences, thoughts or choices.
?Working on Heroes, writing the episodes, doing the webcomics is plenty. This show is amazing. It's rare to be a fan of the show that you're working on. This is an exciting premiere. It's so great that everyone finally gets to see this show. It's a wild ride. Hang on. You're going to love it!?
Like Coleite said, watch the series premier tonight at 9.00pm and then check out the Heroes webcomic at heroes.nbc.com. Source: newsarama |

If you visit myspace today you will notice that the front page is sporting a Heroes theme. If you ask me, this is a genius move on the part of NBC's marketing department. They are sure to suck in some viewers in the teenager demographic with a move like this. |

You know those cool commentary tracks that come on most DVDs now days? The ones that you listen to while watching the movie so you can hear what the cast and crew has to say about the scenes as they happen? Well this is a take on that idea, except instead of a DVD this audio commentary goes along with the Pilot episode of Heroes.
Oh yeah .. and instead of the cast and crew giving us insight... it is just a couple of drunk guys babbling about the show.
A seemingly cool idea, not sure how it actually plays out in it's execution though.
Download the audio commentary here
Be warned there is a lot of foul language and low-brow humor
