CHICAGO (MarketWatch) -- NBC revealed its midseason slate of new and enhanced content Tuesday for the NBC.com Web site, including tie-ins to its "Heroes" series, as the network tries to keep viewers engaged during the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike.
...
In association with "Heroes," one of the more popular shows to debut on NBC in recent seasons, NBC.com will feature "Heroes Evolution," which provides new back stories and plot twists through online and mobile microsites. The "Heroes" graphic novel will remain in originals throughout the winter,
"Evolutions" also contains walkthroughs of all that has happened in the online Heroes experience, as well as an interactive mystery entitled "Who Is Richard Drucker?" The set up for the mystery is that Micah (Noah Gray-Cabey) discovered that Hana Gitelman has a mysterious uncle named Richard Drucker. It's up to fans to visit the aforementioned websites, watch videos, and scour message board posts to discover what Hana's long-lost relative is up to.
Well we might not have any new episodes of 'Heroes' to watch for a while, but at least NBC is trying to keep our appetites quenched. I'm sure any die hard 'Heroes' fan will want to head over to the Heroes Evolutions website and burn a few minutes, hours or more.

We found this in our inbox earlier today:

I’m writing after having recently stumbled across HEROES-TV.com. I was quite impressed by your dedicated Heroes coverage, so I wanted to reach out to you on behalf of NBC and Sprint’s “Create Your Hero” campaign. This online campaign gives Heroes fans a chance to create a new hero that will be featured in a new series of live action webisodes next year and the possible inclusion of the character into the show itself. Users can vote each week through December 17th, either online or via text exclusive on Sprint phones (HEROES text 6789), to choose all the characteristics of this new hero.

Dr. Suresh claims to be making new advancements in his studies on the Shanti virus, but his recent devotion to The Company makes his previous altruistic intentions somewhat questionable. I can only hope he is still doing the right thing. He has posted more expert videos on his website: activatingevolution.org. I believe the videos are supposed to help us in the understanding of the virus and its potential outbreak. You be the judge.

NBC has finally launched its much anticipated video downloading service NBC Direct.
The service is billed as the free and easy way to enjoy NBC programming "from the comfort of your PC". Although the buzz around the web is that the service may not be all that "easy".
The list of requirements is kind of lofty, you will need to have Windows Media Player (only Windows based computers will stand a chance at watching a video for now), Internet Explorer, latest version of the .NET framework and the latest security updates for Windows Media Player.
Some other limitations of the 'NBC Direct' service is that episodes are only available for seven days after their air date and they can only be viewed by people living in the U.S.
My experience with the service has been less than stellar so far. I have no problems watching the various advertisements that come on before an episode of 'Heroes' is supposed to start, but after the ads ... nothing happens.
Perhaps I am just not Internet savvy...
[UPDATE]
I have received some emails from people saying that "NBC Direct" is now working with Firefox and RealPlayer... so that is good news!

Dear friends, I'm seeking an adventurer who wants a change of pace to help me find a man named Richard Drucker. I've recently uncovered evidence that he may be the missing link leading us to a deeper understanding of "The Company." I've learned of his whereabouts, but he's off the grid – standard emails won't reach him. I need help delivering a message to him in the Kingdom of Bhutan. Wandering souls a plus. Interested?

The downside to all that closure that Heroes bends over backwards to give you is that, once an arc ends, the show has to tap-dance pretty fast to set new stories in motion. Gotta get those balls back in the air! Can't let the fanboys start saying we're boring! That said, Heroes 2.0 did a decent job of picking up some existing storylines (Molly's visions, Noah vs. The Company) and establishing new ones (the Honduran Wonder Twins; the sins-of-the-fathers storyline; the menacing Squiggly Thingy of Death that appeared in Molly's dream, the threatening photographs, and Kensei's standard). There was enough going on that I scarcely noticed that we had hardly any Peter and absolutely no Niki.
Long story short: “Heroes” got off to a laughably pathetic start. Granted, last season the show hit it’s high point about half way through (”Company Man”, “Five Years Gone”, “Parasite” = excellent television), but it’s not looking good. Here’s why…
...and WHAT IS THIS SYMBOL? It’s everywhere: Molly draws it, its tattooed on Jessica’s shoulder, burnt onto DL’s arm, in isaacs painting, a shape in the genetic code by Suresh, on the cover of Chandra’s book!, necklace of the haitian, Hiro’s/Kensei’s sword, ITS EVERYWHERE. There is more to this damn symbol than we think.

Last year we used to do a weekly feature called 'Heroes': Around the web where we would post snippits from people's web pages and blogs when they talked about the show. Once the show became a hit, there was just too much chatter going on around the web to try and sift through it.
Well we are going to bring back the concept, but instead of creating a long list of a bunch of posts we are just going to pick the one we find most interesting.
So here you go, this week's featured 'Heroes' related blog entry:
Blog: Xark! Blog Post Title: Why I like 'Heroes' better than 'Lost'
Quote:
I am a sporadic TV viewer. My life schedule has seldom allowed for regular viewing and, for that reason, I am not a huge fan of serialized shows that aren't wrapped up nicely in one evening. Cliff-hangers are annoying to me. I learned to practically speed read so I could finish a novel in a day or two. Perhaps that evidences a need for instant gratification, but I think it's mostly a desire to get the meaning of something and start trying to integrate it. So, I never watched either show on regular TV. We rented the DVDs over the course of a few weeks, "Heroes" just recently, obviously, and "Lost" some time ago. (It's such a great way to watch, honestly. No commercials, your own schedule, pausability, rewind. Cool.)
One reason I like "Heroes" has nothing to do with art: Only Daughter was really into it and it was a show we could watch together. Other family members wandered in, some stayed for the dramatic season conclusion. We watched over a couple of weekends and it was very nice, both the togetherness and the ability to discuss it later. "Lost" didn't quite fit that pre-teen/teen market.
