An article in today's Sioux City Journal talks about 'Heroes' and how the show and it's actors has become a worldwide success due to fan generated buzz.
Quote: Considered a key bridge between network television and on-line broadcasting, "Heroes" has managed to create buzz in countries where it hasn't even aired.
Example? Co-star Sendhil Ramamurthy was at the French Open this spring and couldn't move without a crowd gathering. Open officials had to assign him an escort just to keep fans at bay. "That's the power of the Internet," he says. "France hasn't gotten the show yet but people there are fully aware of it."
Tabloid reporters are savvy, too. Hayden Panettiere -- who plays the show's cheerleader, Claire -- can't leave her home without photographers chronicling every move. "You're like shark bait," she says. "Being a young female in Hollywood is no easy task."
Quote: Last summer, many of the actors were unknowns. Now, they're full-fledged celebrities.
"You never expect this kind of success," Panettiere says. "When you look back, you think, 'If I had gotten that role, I wouldn't be where I am now.' 'Heroes' opened the door...and I wouldn't trade it for anything."
Like Oka -- who has a role in the upcoming "Get Smart" film -- Panettiere has been able to capitalize on her "Heroes" success. She recorded an album during the show's first season and is weighing movie offers. Zach Quinto, who plays the villain Sylar, will play Spock in the upcoming "Star Trek" movie. And creator Tim Kring has been commissioned to produce a "Heroes" spin-off about the superheroes' origins.

After weeks and weeks of a lull in the 'Heroes' buzz machine, the low humming has been cranked back up to an ear piercing BUUZZZZZZ!
Since the 'Heroes' panel this past Saturday, news sites and blogs have been reporting on, debating and drooling over everything from Spock, to Kevin Smith, to printed Graphic Novels, to new Heroes Video Games.
Rather than post umpteen different news stories, I'll try to recap the important info in this one super massive 'Heroes' at Comic-Con post. Oh yeah, you can also watch the 'Heroes' panel for yourself in the previous post.
Cast members in attendance included Jack Coleman; Noah Gray-Cabey; Greg Grunberg; Ali Larter; James Kyson Lee; Masi Oka; Hayden Panettiere; Adrian Pasdar; Zachary Quinto; Sendhil Ramamurthy; and Milo Ventimiglia.
Also on hand were new comer Dana Ramieriez, series creator Tim Kring, artist Tim Sale and writer producer Jeph Loeb who moderated the panel.
What we learned:
- Kevin Smith will write and direct and episode of Heroes: Origins (the 'Heroes' Spin off that will fill the gaps when the show goes on hiatus). Smith said he was contacted by Kring, and joked that he told him, “I would love to write and direct an episode about the two gay heroes…you know, the Japanese dudes. They’re gay, right?!” He later commented, “If you can do autopsy on a cheerleader, you can show a couple of heroes making out.” If you don't know who Kevin Smith is, you best get to Googling.
- UBSoft will indeed be creating a 'Heroes' video game as we reported last week.
- Jeph Loeb told us that Heroes: Origins will air at the end of April as six consecutive episodes. Origins was described as a stand-alone anthology that takes place in the 'Heroes' universe. Origins will use different writers and producers than 'Heroes' and will not be used as a way to bring new characters onto 'Heroes'. This is different from what we had been hearing when the idea for Heroes: Origins was first revealed.
- For whatever reason, Danny Bonaduce shows up (for publicity I'm guessing) to remind the cast members that once a hit show gets cancelled your life "kind of sucks for a while."
The panel ended with a montage of clips from Season 2 and Jeph Loeb ask that the audience keep what they saw a secret. (Click "read more" for a description of the montage)

The Toronto Star online published a story about a press junket to the Heroes season 2 set. Despite the title, the only spoiler-related information is in the form of speculation. The Toronto Star
Quote: "Last year, nobody wanted to talk to us," mused a mysteriously bearded Adrian Pasdar, a.k.a. the flying politician, Nathan Petrelli. "This year, everybody wants to talk to us and we're not allowed to say anything."
Still, certain conclusions were unavoidable: Pasdar's mere presence would seem to confirm that Nathan survived his brother's explosive meltdown at the end of last season. As does the oddly formal presence of Milo Ventimiglia (hair cropped, in shirt and tie) as the aforementioned, apparently unexploded brother, Peter Petrelli.
...
Oka walks us through the new Bennet home and the old artist's loft that once belonged to dead painter Isaac Mendez, but "might now be used for other purposes." The simulated Irish location is apparently just one of many international sites the season will visit, from Egypt to Central America (where we will meet the latest hero, Maya, played by a very happy to be there Dania Ramirez, A.J.'s former fiancée on The Sopranos).
...
The most potential clues to be found were littered around the Mohinder apartment set, including several stuffed animals and toys, which would seem to indicate that the young hero-tracker, Molly, is now staying with him.
And there, in the middle of the room, was The Map, with all the hero spottings marked with push-pins. Everyone immediately pressed in close around it, to see if there were any pins anywhere near their home markets – and yes, there is, apparently, a closeted superhero somewhere near Ottawa.
Only two more months. . . |

- Leonard Roberts was MIA again. Based on his absence all summer it is looking like the D.L. character isn't going to survive his injuries.
- New cast member Dania Ramirez revealed that her character, Maya is "on the run from the cops".
- Greg Grunberg apparently confirmed that Zachary Quinto is indeed slated to play young Spock in the upcoming Star Trek movie.
- J.J. Abrams' has cast Greg Grunberg in one of his upcoming films (known under working titles such as Cloverfield, 1-18-08, Slusho). "It'll probably be something where no one will be able to tell it's me," he said. "As you know, J.J. calls me his good-luck charm, so he's got to put me in there somewhere. I actually went to the set the other night, and it was really exciting and cool. The budget is not astronomical. But they're doing incredible things."

In this article posted over at syfyportal, the author explains what the creators of Heroes are doing to attract a young audience.
Quote: One way to try and capture that coveted youth market is to make sure there are characters of the right age and personality that the demographic can relate to. Among the many things "Heroes" did right in its first season on NBC, getting the right youthful characters was definitely among them as many on the cast were younger than 30. In that list were at least three actors who are under 22, thus making them eligible (and eventually nominated) for the SyFy Genre Awards Best Young Actor category.
Noah Gray-Cabey is one of the actors nominated, best known for playing the young Micah who can fix just about anything electronic by simply touching it. While most of the "Heroes" season focused on Ali Larter's split-personality character taking care of him, Micah ended up coming into his own by the season finale using his abilities to help stop Sylar (Zachary Quinto) from blowing up New York City.
One of the most famous faces from "Heroes" who even got a whole advertising campaign featuring her was Hayden Paniettere, the cheerleader, Claire Bennett, which if she was saved, the world was saved.
Panettiere had probably the biggest challenges as an actress, playing some very powerful roles opposite of recurring guest star Thomas Dekker, as her gay/not-so-gay sidekick Zach, who also got nominated. Dekker, who left the show before the end of the first season, appears to have a very promising future as he's set to star in the new Fox series "The Sarah Connor Chronicles" based on the Terminator films.
