The return of the US sci-fi drama import Heroes pulled in 3.7 million viewers to BBC2 last night, April 24.

Heroes began its second series with a share of 16% between 9pm and 9.50pm, according to unofficial overnights.

Background show Heroes Unmasked, which immediately followed the series two opener between 9.50pm and 10pm, attracted 2.7 million viewers and a 12% share.

Last night's audience for the NBC Universal series was down on the series one opener last on BBC2 last July, which had 4.3 million viewers and a 19% share.

But last night's episode, the first of 11, did beat the ITV1 opposition in the 9pm hour.

Although NBC's tangly sci-fi drama Heroes doesn't return until mid-September (again, damn that strike!), take heart, fans: You won't have to wait until the fall for some kind of superhero conspiracy fix. In what series writer Chuck Kim calls ''a mini-spin-off,'' a new installment of a web comic, focusing on the show's mysterious Company — that secret, possibly sinister, organization that monitors ''gifted'' humans — will debut each Tuesday starting April 15 at nbc.com/heroes/novels.

The album's executive producer, Errol Kolosine, stated, "For a long time music and comic dork like myself, this project has been a dream come true. The team behind Heroes had a commitment to making this soundtrack as unique and inspiring as the show itself, which is how we managed this stellar selection of musical heroes.
