Heroes News : Unlikely Drama Strikes A Chord With Viewers

Heroes News

So, you can leap tall buildings in a single bound and outrun a speeding locomotive. Good for you. Try emerging as a new hit show in this dismal fall season. Now that's impressive.

Only five of the 23 rookie network series qualify as runaway successes, the most unlikely of which is "Heroes," the Monday-night drama about a group of mutants who have the daunting task of saving the cheerleader, saving the world and saving NBC, not necessarily in that order.

The series averages 14.3 million viewers a week, roughly the same as ABC's "Ugly Betty," and more than the other early winners, "Shark," "Jericho" and "Brothers & Sisters."

Heroes News : `Heroes' Snags Fans By Humanizing Super Powers

Did Claire the cheerleader really kill the quarterback? When did Hiro learn English and ditch the dorky glasses? Who is this evil Sylar, and what exactly are his powers?

If you're not asking yourself these questions, you're missing out on the hottest new show of the television season, "Heroes." The common-people-with-uncommon-powers drama on NBC ranks first in its 9 p.m. ET Monday time slot and has added a new phrase to the pop culture lexicon: "Save The Cheerleader. Save The World."

The drama is water-cooler-worthy partly because how it harnessed the Internet and cultivated an army of sidekicks in comic book fans.

Viewers are drawn in by the complicated plot lines and conflicted characters. It's along the lines of "Twin Peaks" or "Lost," but taken to another level with the hook about people suddenly realize they are extraordinary.

BBC Two has acquired the UK terrestrial rights to Heroes, one of the break-out hits of the current US television season.

The critically acclaimed cult hit follows the story of people scattered around the world who wake up with superhuman powers - and gradually realise that the fate of mankind is in their hands.

The UK pay TV rights to the NBC show have already gone to Sci Fi, part of NBC Universal's global networks unit. Sci Fi will begin airing the show in January; BBC Two will start the terrestrial run after it airs on pay TV.

"We're really looking forward to bringing this innovative and compelling fantasy drama to a terrestrial television audience later next year," said BBC Two controller Roly Keating.

Sue Deeks, head of series programme acquisition at BBC Television, called Heroes an "an intriguing, intelligent and irresistible drama."

Heroes News : 'Heroes' Sparks Concern With Civil Defense

WASHINGTON ? Americans are not only eating up the fall's only two hit network TV shows both dealing with nuclear attacks, they are also showing more interest in preparing for the disasters U.S. officials have characterized as inevitable in the future.

In NBC's "Heroes," the main characters are trying to prevent a global calamity that would strike first in Manhattan, while in CBS' "Jericho," the cast is dealing with the fallout from a widespread nuclear attack that has destroyed much of the country and isolated a small Kansas town.

"Jericho" has been averaging 11.3 million viewers on Wednesdays, while "Heroes" draws an average 14.3 million viewers on Mondays, making it the No. 1 new series in the nation.

Whether it is the popularity of these shows, warnings from political leaders or the real-life threat of nuclear terror posed by enemies in North Korea, Iran or other rogues states or groups like al-Qaida, which has threatened the U.S. with an "American Hiroshima," citizens from coast to coast are taking steps to get themselves ready for possible disaster.

The Buzz : Heroes Winning Fanboys Across The Web

Posted by HeroesFan on 2006/11/22 10:11:53 (842 reads)
The Buzz

The addition of sci-fi greats George Takei and Christopher Eccleston to the cast of Heroes is proving to be a catalyst for getting sci fi fanboys to tune into the show. Why these sci-fi lovers haven't already tuned in is beyond me though.

Quote:

I?m a bit of an outcast in the house at the moment because I?ve failed to become hooked on NBC?s uber-popular show Heroes whereas just about everyone else in the house, including Anne and Courtney, think it?s one of the greatest shows to ever hit television. I think a lot of the reason I haven?t really given it a chance is because of past disappointments with other ?superhero? shows that TV has seen in the past.

...

The first addition that surprised me was word that George Takei?Sulu of original Star Trek?will be added to the cast as the father of one of the Japanese heroes in the show, but that?s not the one that has my interest piqued. No, the addition that has me considering firing up bittorrent to grab the already aired episodes and get caught up is former Doctor Who star Christopher Eccleston.

...

His addition to the cast of Heroes this January, if true, is certainly enough reason for me to sit down and give the show a shot.

On The Web : Hiro's Latest Blog Entry

Posted by HeroesFan on 2006/11/21 14:55:49 (1215 reads)
On The Web

Somehow Hiro is posting to his blog from the burnt toast dinner (from the past apparently). He mentions; "I don't know what happened with the other blog entries. Must be a server glitch."

I'm not sure if erasing the old blog entries was an attempt to follow the continuity of Hiro traveling back in time, but if you really want to find them.. they are still there. So it could just be that they will wipe the entries at the start of each month.

Kitty Pride
{{{(>.<)}}} (o.O) \(^o^)/

I've met my Marle. <(^o^<) (>^o^)> \(^o^)/ I never thought it would
happen, but I've met my Marle. She wasn't a ときメモ character. She was
real. She was fleshy. She had a smile that could melt butter like a hot
waffle.

She had powers too. She was like wikipedia, google, my own Jeeves. She
even corrected me on which issue Kitty Pride traveled back in time in.
Issue #141. I thought it was #143 (?.?)

I've travelled so far to meet my own personal destiny. Who knew? It's so
rare to find someone you connect with in the middle of nowhere. She was my
oasis.

And she's dead.

It happened so fast. Why? Why was she killed? Is this a test? Why must
something tragic always happen to the hero? Every time something good
happens to me, it never lasts. Is that what being a hero is all about? And
the way she was killed was too similar to how Mr. Isack was killed in the
future.

I've thought long. I don't have seven dragon balls to summon 神竜 but, I
have my own reset button. I've decided to go back to yesterday.

I can't let her die like that. I couldn't let her die. Yes, I might be
risking a rift, but if I can't use my power to save people, especially the
ones I love, I don't deserve them. I won't stand around like a bystander.
I refuse to be a coward. I refuse to not try.

And so here I am at the Burnt Toast diner. By my calculations, about one
day in the past. My time travel seemed to have worked. Charlie is alive.
That's all that matters.

I will be come back to the present to continue my mission. I will save the
cheerleader. I will meet Mr. Isack. I will save the world. But please let
me be selfish. Let me save Charlie.

P.S. I don't know what happened with the other blog entries. Must be a
server glitch.
