"Got a peek at the new NBC series about the birth of superheroes and villains. I really liked it. It was not great. There were quite a few problems, but I'm willing to forgive the show it's faults because it was gripping, fun, and it moved. Last season's most legitimate network sci-fi entry "Invasion" was a slow, lumbering bore."

"So, as part of an advertising campaign, NBC claimed that beginning September 1, they would air (for free) the pilot of the upcoming show Heroes via iTunes. Free has once again gotten lost in the marketing translation, and NBC, attempting to be the first network to actually test the new Internet marketing campaign waters, fails miserably in trying to invent yet another new definition of the word.... SuperHeroHype.com has an interview with Heroes creator Tim Kring where he discusses how he came up with the series. Kring talks about developing the different characters and their powers as well as casting the various roles. He also talks a bit about the story itself and where it will head throughout the season.
"SHH!: In the pilot and first few episodes, all the characters are discovering their own powers, but will we see the characters come together sometime during the first season? Kring: Well, the characters are beginning to cross fairly soon. We point to it in the pilot. A couple actually start to cross in Episode 2 and by Episode 4, many of them have crossed, but there is never going to be a sense of forming a Justice League. They will come together, they'll be torn apart, they'll group in small groups and then be driven apart somehow, but all with the idea that there is something larger that they're being drawn to. The pilot prophesized this moment at the end that a large event was going to happen. The first season is very much about getting to that event and stopping that event from happening."

"A couple of weeks ago I got to speak with Ali Larter (Varsity Blues, Final Destination 1&2, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back) for the first issue of this semester's Union Newspaper, based out of Cal State Long Beach. She's hot and more than mildly attracted to me (as you'll find out soon enough). We discussed her new show on NBC called Heroes and a few other things along the way. But I had an awesome time talking to her and it went better than I expected. "
Ali goes on to answer some Heroes related questions: "UW: What was the feeling on the set of Heroes?
Ali: Well, this is actually my first experience with television, and when I read Tim Krane's script I was absolutely blown away because I've read through other material this pilot season and nothing really caught me and then I read this pilot and went 'wow, this is something really special.' I also thought of it in the way that if we are lucky enough to go for five years, is this a character I could grow with? What I think is a great talent of Tim's is that, Mickey (the character I'm playing) is so complicated and conflicted. I think that he keeps all his characters, even though these extraordinary things are happening to them, he keeps them very much based in reality. And that's to me what interested me most about it. You know, how do you go on with day-to-day life. And I think that maybe why people are responding to it so much, because it really makes you ask yourself, 'is there something inside of you? Are you different?' It is a cool concept based in reality, and that's why I think it's special."
The current poll here at Heroes-TV asks, "what super power would you choose". Ali answered the same question:
"UW: What power would you choose to have?
Ali: I would probably choose to fly. I mean, I think that would be so exhilarating and as close as you could get to true freedom. "

In an interview Greg Grunberg did between takes with scifi.com he explains that the show will cater to people's uneasy feelings about the unsettling times we all live in.
Quote: "The world is insane right now It really is. You can't count on anything. And so we all want to know that there's something we can count on and [that] there's stability somewhere and we're in control in some way. ... For me, what it does is [say,] 'Finally there's some people we know we can count on?if they come together, if they can control these powers." Source: scifi.com |
