Any self respecting Heroes fan might want to leave a comment for this blogger:
Quote: The new show Hero?s on NBC? is terrible. I am not happy about it, I don?t think alot of people who were excited about the idea of a comic super hero television show wanted it to be this.
I keep trying to like it, but don?t believe the ads they pump out every week during prime time about being a great number one hit TV show, it really is terrible. Now the idea for the show, great, but of course the execution is poor. In specific, the acting is just? bleh which is probably 50% the actors fault and the other half the writing. A great concept still needs some decent dialogue to keep people strung along between the special effects. I heard on some pod cast that it?s all about shock value, and really that?s all it is, just stringing the audience out for as long as possible, despite the many moments in-between that make you want to cringe.

Peter: "Did you ever get the feeling like you were meant to do something... extraordinary?" Mohinder: "I'm driving a cab. You may have noticed."
I wasn't wildly impressed with this pilot episode. I was confused about what was going on, and a little disappointed that it was all origin and little story.
So let's talk origin, then.
Madras, India: A gorgeous young Indian professor guy named Mohinder Suresh started chasing his dead father's wild goose. Except it doesn't seem to be a wild goose, after all. Teleportation, levitation, tissue regeneration, new gateway to evolution? Forget the technical explanation. What we have are emerging "X-Men"-ish mutants, and Mohinder's father was the one to discover that it was happening. And it doesn't seem to be gradual and random, either. Five people seem to be discovering it is happening at exactly the same time. Which means it was caused by something specific. Right?

"In recent days, a seemingly random group of individuals has emerged with what can only be described as 'special' abilities. Although unaware of it now, these individuals will not only save the world, but also change it forever. This transformation from ordinary to extraordinary will not occur overnight. Every story has a beginning. Volume One of their epic tale begins here."

How do you watch Heroes? Do you download the episode from iTunes and watch on your iPod or computer? Do you stream it from NBC? If so, then you are not included in the weekly ratings count. Of course most of us aren't included anyway as Nielsen uses a sample audience of around 40,000 viewers. Still with the viewership of online streams and downloads growing you would think that the networks would start thinking about new methods of viewership tracking.
Networkworld has an article talking about this issue:
Quote: If everyone started watching "24" or "CSI" on video iPods or streamed over the Internet - instead of on TV in their living rooms - these top-rated shows would probably go the way of "Cop Rock".
That is, Jack Bauer would become the victim of, not terrorists, but bad ratings. This is because Nielsen Media Research cannot collect data about what people watch on handheld video-viewing gadgets or from PCs streaming network TV shows. While Nielsen estimates around 90% of TV viewing still happens in homes, it's this burgeoning 10% that TV networks and advertisers are desperate to delve into. Read the full article |

They've had some other articles mentioning HEROES, but I guess they finally thought the show was noteworthy enough to write an article about HEROES (the previous link is to the print version, which sometimes stays valid longer, just in case the newspaper uses a "subscribe to read the archives" deal for the original article)... I've read this quote that's in the article before, but it's still humorous:Quote: On a more prosaic level, Loeb and other comic-book veterans working on Heroes can tell comic neophyte Kring when an idea veers into another book or movie.
"At one point, (Tim) said there should be a guy who could pick up a car and throw it in the air, using his magnetic power," Loeb says. "I said, 'Tim, that's Magneto (of the X-Men).' He turned to me and said, 'Is that a person or a power?' " |

1Hero has a pretty cool blog entry about SYLAR and the Symbol, with some screen caps and speculation:
Quote: I've compiled a few screen-caps and other sources of information for those who have questions or may just want to see the scenes from HEROES. Questions that I'll try to answer include how many times was the "symbol" (or space between the CTAGs) shown in episode 2, how to spell SYLAR*, and some particulars of Isaac and Niki. I'm not sure, but I have a hunch this might be the same Hero we all know and love as a content contributor here at heroes-tv. Is that you Hero? |
