Apartment 612, Brooklyn, New York: Mohinder enters to find Sylar casually at home in front of Mohinder's laptop. Molly's still asleep, and Maya's making breakfast wearing a “World's Greatest Dad” apron. Maya's honored to meet him. Mohinder's confused. She knows Gabriel's a killer, but she's taken lives herself. She explains about her power. She needs his help. Sylar's read about the virus and how it takes away power. Maya wonders if that's why Sylar's powers are gone, and Mohinder jumps at the opening. He grabs a knife, but Sylar's got a gun. During their standoff, Sylar admits he has the virus and needs an infusion of Claire and Mohinder's blood to cure himself. Maya finally realizes Sylar's lied to her. She uses her power, and Mohinder and Sylar start to collapse. Sylar tries to talk her out of it, even pointing the gun at her, but she doesn't back down until Molly stumbles out of her bedroom weeping black tears. Maya pulls back her poison, and Mohinder promises to cure Sylar. First they have to get to Mohinder's lab.
Petrelli Apartment, Manhattan: Nathan contemplates a mirror while Angela thanks him for arranging her release. Matt knows she didn't kill anyone, but that Adam Monroe did: Victoria Pratt. Nathan knows that Peter's alive, and that he was involved in Victoria's death. Angela explains that she, Linderman, and Nathan's father believed Adam could help them create a better world. Somewhere along the line Adam decided the world wasn't worth fixing, that it needed to be wiped clean using an unstoppable virus. Just before it was too late, she realized how wrong it was. Nathan doesn't believe her: there's not much difference between letting Peter take out New York and letting the virus free. Angela tells them where the virus is. Before Nathan and Matt leave, Angela warns them that Adam will never quit. They need to kill him with one bullet through his head. The same tactic will work on Peter.
Primatech Warehouse, Odessa, Tx.: A replay of last week: Adam and Peter walk through the warehouse. Hiro appears and stops time. Hiro wants to kill Adam. Peter wants to protect him, and sparks up. Hiro charges, but teleports out of the way. Adam was Hiro's friend too, but he betrayed Hiro. Hiro tries to kill Adam, but is stopped by Peter's telekinesis. Adam saved Peter's brother, but killed Hiro's father because Kaito had him locked away for thirty years. Hiro teleports again, appearing behind Peter and raising his katana to Peter's neck. Peter explains about the future, then grabs the sword and electrifies it, knocking Hiro out. Time returns to normal, and Adam's surprised to see Hiro. Peter explains his actions, but doesn't believe Hiro's claims. They need to destroy the virus. Adam agrees and takes his sword back from beside and unconscious Hiro.
Butler (Bennet) House, Costa Verde: Claire goes through her dad's old files. Sandra watches, wondering why she's doing this when even Noah couldn't stop the company. Sandra had dreams for her daughter, and can't bear the thought of Claire being trapped in some lab experiment. Claire's decided she can't live her life in fear of a big “What if?”
Bob's Office, Company Facility: Bob chews out Elle for provoking Claire, then tells her she's not getting any more field assignments. Elle tries to defend herself, tries to provoke some sign of affection or understanding, but fails.
Noah's Cell: Noah sits on his bed and bounces a ball against the far wall. Elle watches him for a while then demands to know what her father did to her. She has no one else to talk to. Noah declines even when Elle threatens him with a hand full of sparks. When she powers down and begs, Noah tells her they wanted to test her limits. When she passed out from the strain, Bob insisted they keep going because she was tougher than that. She was seven. Elle sags onto a bench at the news. Bob enters, furious with Elle for coming to Bennet. Elle leaves. Bob wants to know what evidence Claire could have that might expose the company. Noah ignores him and continues bouncing his ball. Bob finds his silence unfortunate because now they've got to take measures to silence Claire.
Dawson House, New Orleans: Niki, clearly agitated, plays with her cell phone while pacing until Micah enters, out of breath. She's been worried. Micah tells her about Monica and what happened. He figures that with his mother's strength. . . Niki stops him. The virus has taken her strength, but it's okay. Dr. Suresh is coming with a cure. Micah's hopeful, but Monica needs his help, so right now all she has to do is drive.
Primatech Paper: Adam and Peter proceed down a hallway, using telekinesis and the sword to take out guards who try to stop them. A voice drones on about the security breach until Peter fries a junction box with a bolt of lightning. They stop before a huge vault door. Peter's got to use his brain to pry it open, but he's not sure he has that much power. He wants to know if Adam killed Kaito, and Adam confesses, but if Kaito didn't plan on using the virus he should have destroyed it. Peter has doubts, but Adam reminds him of Caitlin, still stuck in the future. She needs him. Adam steps back. Peter raises his hands and telekinetically pulls at the door, which doesn't budge.
Mendez Loft, Soho: Mohinder opens the electronic lock on the door, letting himself, Sylar, Maya and Molly into the lab. After they've passed through, the lock flashes red. Sylar orders Molly and Maya to wait in a corner, then brags about killing Isaac right where he's standing. Mohinder needs some of Sylar's blood to see which strain of the virus he has, if any. Sylar appreciates the irony in having Papa Suresh help him find his gift, and Mohinder restore it. Papa betrayed Sylar, and Sylar warns Mohinder not to make the same mistake. Mohinder jabs him with a needle and begins to draw blood. High up on the wall, inside a plastic housing, a red light flashes.
Bob's Office, Midland: Elle enters stealthily and finds her file box on the wall of files. It's empty, so she goes to Bob's computer using the password “Midas.” It brings up a screen showing Mohinder in the lab, and she recognizes Sylar. She sets off for the lab, hoping to make her Daddy proud.
New Orleans: Monica, tied to a pillar in some dark room, pleads for her life while a thug tosses gasoline around the room. Nearby, Niki drives while Micah uses her cell phone to track Monica's. He's turned it into a GPS that can find Monica's cell. He also tells a streetlight to change so they don't have to slow down.
Primatech Paper: Matt and Nathan land in the parking lot while Matt screams directions. Nathan stretches a crick in his back and agrees that they're never going to talk about the flight again. Matt tells Nathan what his mother said, but Nathan insists his mother's advice is garbage. If Peter becomes a problem, Nathan'll handle him. Hiro emerges from the warehouse, overjoyed to see “Flying Man” again.
Butler/Bennet House, Costa Verde: Claire continues packing when West shows up at the back door. He hasn't come to help, he's come to stop her. He doesn't want the whole world to know about him. Claire doesn't understand. The Company killed her father, and they're not going to stop hounding her until she does something to stop them. West isn't convinced, so Claire hands him Noah's file on him. Now he doesn't have to worry about being exposed. West takes his file and leaves Claire teary-eyed as he flies away. Mr. Muggles enters the room and Claire takes some comfort that he won't leave her. Mr. Muggles leaves, but only to go bark at the door. Claire drops the box she's holding as the door opens to reveal Noah.
Mendez Laboratory, Soho: Maya and Molly sit on the cot. Maya wishes her brother were there. Molly offers to find him, but she needs a picture. Maya pulls out a picture of herself and Alejandro, and Molly concentrates. She can't find Alejandro anywhere, though. Maya stands up as she realizes what that means. Meanwhile, across the lab, Mohinder has discovered that Sylar has the same strain of virus that Niki had. The Company injected him as well. Maya chooses this moment to accuse Sylar of killing her brother, but Sylar hasn't got time for interruptions, and so he shoots her. She dies on the floor, but Sylar orders Mohinder to use the heal-anything blood to revive her. Mohinder pulls the blood out of his medical kit, where it's been all along. Sylar complains that they have trust issues.
Butler/Bennet Home: As Sandra, Lyle and Claire listen in disbelief, Noah explains what's happened, that Claire's blood brought him back from the dead (and apparently repaired his glasses). He wants Claire to stop threatening to expose them because they'll “react.” But he's made a deal with the Company. They'll leave the family alone if Noah goes back to them. It's all his fault, but he never meant to hurt them. He briefly grips Sandra's hand, then walks back out the door. Bob is waiting outside, and Noah tells him it's done.
Primatech Basement, Texas: Peter finishes pulling open the safe door, then backs up and leaves Adam to destroy the virus. Hiro teleports in, vowing to stop “Kensai.” Adam draws his sword. Hiro charges, but Peter throws him against a wall, knocking him out. Adam sheathes his sword and walks into the vault, warning Peter that Hiro will keep trying to stop them unless Peter does something about it. Peter picks up Hiro and begins choking him. Suddenly, Matt strides down the hall, using his power to order Peter to put Hiro down, trying to explain what Adam really wants. Peter drops Hiro and turns to attack Matt, using his own telepathy to argue that Matt's on the wrong side, and using his telekinesis to push Matt down the hall. Nathan steps in.
Hiro comes to and teleports into the vault, where Adam has opened a cupboard and taken out the virus. He holds it behind his back as he draws his sword on Hiro again. Hiro taught him how to be a hero, and then how to be a villain.
Nathan explains how he's seen Adam's file at the company, how he tried to release the virus thirty years ago. Peter counters that Adam's blood saved Nathan. Nathan dismisses that: Adam used Nathan to get Peter's allegiance.
Adam has watched four hundred years of war, famine and disease pass by and nothing has really changed. God made it rain for forty days and nights, then started again. Adam intends to let the virus do the same work, giving the survivors another chance to get things right.
Nathan continues to work on Peter. Adam's used Nathan to win Peter's loyalty, but Nathan carried Peter away from Kirby Plaza because he loved and believed in Peter, and still does. Nathan walks forward, and Peter backs up a few steps.
Kensai holds the sword to Hiro's throat. Kensai's not god, but he's lived for four hundred years and might live for four hundred more. Hiro should have killed him before, and should kill him now as revenge for Kaito.
Nathan wonders if Peter can really trust Adam. Peter turns and begins running to the vault followed by Matt and Nathan.
Hiro reaches out and grabs Kensai's shoulder, but in the instant before they teleport, Kensai drops the vial of virus he had held behind his back. It tumbles end over end toward the floor, but Peter squeezes in through the open door and telekinetically stops the fall. He takes the virus in his hand. Matt squeezes through the door and after seeing that the virus is safe, wonders about all the other cupboards in the vault. Peter can't believe that after seeing what the virus could do, he almost. . . Nathan stops his pity rant. Peter came to destroy the virus and it doesn't matter what almost happened. Peter agrees and orders them to stand back as he closes his hands over the vial and focuses Ted Sprague's nuclear fire to incinerate the vial and its contents. He opens his hand to find ash which blows away, leaving the half-helix symbol behind on his hand for only a moment. Matt can't believe what his father, Angela, Kaito and all the rest have done, how they've manipulated everything. Nathan agrees that something has to be done. They have to be stopped, exposed. Nathan's going to hold a press conference. Matt's going to use his power to make sure everyone listens to him. A flashing red light in an air vent shows that their conversation is being watched and heard.
Mendez Lab, Soho: Mohinder uses Claire's blood to bring back Maya. Sylar realizes all it takes is a simple injection. He snatches up Mohinder's medical kit, apologizes for not being there when Maya wakes up, and bolts for the door. Elle stands in his way, charging up a lightning bolt, but he shoots her before she can fire it. She goes down. Molly screams, and Mohinder rushes to rescue her as Sylar wheels around to shoot her as well. He misses, and Elle comes back up again before Sylar can escape and hits him with a bolt. He stumbles, but continues running, outdistancing Elle. Mohinder realizes Sylar has the virus cure, and Niki is doomed.
New Orleans: Micah continues to direct Niki. They're close. In the store, Monica's been using her phone to watch video. The arsonist takes it away from her, then lights up Micah's 9th Wonders comic book and uses it to set fire to everything around him before throwing it on the floor to burn. Monica pleads for her life, but the arsonists blames her for forcing him to kill her.
Micah and Niki pull into an alley just as the arsonist comes out of the building and gets into his van. Micah recognizes the van, and Niki pulls in front of it, forcing him to stop. He jumps out as Niki climbs out, and she kicks him before he can draw his gun, knocking it to the ground where she picks it up and aims it at him, demanding to know Monica's location. The thug refuses, and she pistol whips him a couple of times, knocking him out. Micah notices the fire, and Niki orders him to call 911 while she runs toward the burning building. She finds Monica inside and frees her, but before they can escape, a burning beam blocks their exit. Niki manages to lift it out of the way long enough for Monica to escape, but not long enough for Niki to follow. The flames surround her. Outside, Micah runs toward Monica, but she intercepts him and drags him away an instant before the building explodes.
Yamagato Industries: Ando enters his office to find Hiro sitting and watching a newscast on the computer monitor. He's made sure his father's killer can never hurt anyone again. Cut to Adam lying in a casket buried deep underground in the cemetery where Kaito Nakamura had been laid to rest. Adam screams to be let out, but there's no one to hear him.
Mendez Loft, Soho: Maya comes back from the dead, and is surprised by that. Elle comes back from losing Sylar, panicking because her father's going to be very upset. Mohinder can't understand that. If she hadn't shown up, Sylar would have killed them all. Elle's taken aback by the idea, but thinks it's cool.
Odessa Police Station, Texas: Reporters ready cameras and microphones as Peter, Matt and Nathan cross the squad room. Peter's still kicking himself for believing Adam. Nathan explains that Peter always tries to do the right thing, and believes other people are the same way even when they aren't. If he doesn't let go of the guilt, it'll destroy him. Nathan knows this first hand. They really missed each other, and hug until Matt enters. He's prepped the audience. Nathan steps up to a microphone. He announces his identity, how he was elected to congress but lost his position along with his brother, his family and his way. But in the meantime, he's seen the world through new eyes, seen ordinary people trying very hard to be heroes. These ordinary people are capable of extraordinary things, but there are people and organizations who don't want anyone to know about them. He's there to tell them the truth. He has the ability. . .
Shots ring out, and Nathan falls with several bullet holes in his chest. Peter catches him, but Nathan is dying. Matt stands up in time to see a lone figure (in a suit coat and baseball cap) walking away at the back of the crowd of reporters trying to get close enough to see what's happened.
Petrelli Apartment: Angela Petrelli watches news coverage of her son's death while talking on her cell phone. She tells whoever is on the other end that they've opened Pandora's box.
Volume III: Villains
An Alleyway: Sylar, bleeding from a dozen wounds caused by shattering glass during the fight in the laboratory, injects himself with the viral cure. His wounds vanish. He stretches out his hand and an empty can of spinach zooms across the alley into his grasp. He's back.
