A Tent, Whitebeard's Camp: Hiro comes to and finds himself strapped to a board with his head over a smoking bowl. Kensai stands over him. Yaeko and her father are chained behind him. Hiro can't stop time with his head over a bowl of opium. Whitebeard's promised him half the country and Yaeko in return for Hiro's capture. Kensai agreed, although Yaeko swears she will never love him. Hiro reminds him that he's supposed to be a hero, but Kensai figures that after he leads Whitebeard's armies to victory, he'll be the greatest hero in Japanese history. . . which he's going to change.
Warehouse, Odessa Ukraine: Noah takes pictures of Isaac's paintings while the Haitian stands by. One painting is of Hiro swordfighting with Kensai. One is of Jessica pounding on a wall or door. One is Noah dead. One of a hand holding a test tube. One of Mohinder with a bandaged nose and tears in his eyes holding a smoking gun. One is of Peter and another man (Nathan?) behind glass on which is a biohazard sticker. He calls Mohinder, who's in Molly's room in the Company Hartsdale NY facility to ask about the gun. Mohinder doesn't have one. Noah needs Mohinder to help him make sense of the paintings. Mohinder can't help. They've given him a partner, and they're watching him. Noah presses, stressing that his family is in danger, but Mohinder refuses. They were supposed to take down the Company together, but Mohinder is no longer sure of Noah's agenda. Mohinder ends the call abruptly when Niki appears. Bob wants to see them. Back in the warehouse, Noah sets fire to the paintings.
Company Facility: Niki admits she's Mohinder's guard dog. They walk into a hall bustling with people while an alarm klaxon sounds. Bob's evacuating the facility on the advice of Matt and Nathan, who enter the hallway. Matt explains that he found his father, and that Maury is responsible for Kaito's death, Angela's attack and now he's coming for Bob.
New York Street, 2008: Caitlin and Peter call out, but the city is deserted and no one answers. Peter has no idea what he did, how he got from Montreal in 2007 to New York in 2008, or why the place is empty. An armored truck pulls up in front of them and men in hazmat suits surround them, throwing them to the ground and pulling oxygen masks over their faces, demanding to know if they're sick, if they have any symptoms. They're going to be quarantined.
Butler House, Costa Verde: Claire awakens to a text message from West wondering if she's had breakfast. When she replies, he tells her it smells like waffles. She leaps out of bed and runs downstairs to find Sandra standing over a pile of waffles that West brought. West himself is playing with Mr. Muggles. Claire's upset. It's rude to drop over uninvited. Sandra disagrees, and finds West adorable. She apologizes that Mr. Butler is out of town on business, then leaves the room to fetch Lyle for breakfast. While she's gone, West pull out the paper and shows her an article about Debby's disgrace. It's buried in the last section, but Claire is still worried that someone will connect them to Debby's supposed hallucination. She's furious at West, but he calms her down. He only wants to be a part of her life. She accepts that and kisses him, taking a moment to turn a family photo face down so that he won't see and recognize Noah.
Company Facility, Hartsford: Matt, Mohinder, Niki and Nathan gather in a room under Bob's direction. They've found Maury's car ditched a short distance away. Matt wants to take Bob into protective custody, but that didn't help Kaito or Angela, so Bob declines. Instead he directs Niki and Mohinder to inject Maury with the virus. Mohinder refuses, but Bob argues that it's necessary. Nathan doesn't buy it. With Kaito, Nathan's mother, Bob, Maury, all of them. . . it's all half truths. Bob ignores him. Since Maury won't submit willingly, Niki will do the injecting. Mohinder can follow behind with the cure to ensure Maury doesn't die. Preventing Maury from getting into their heads is going to be Matt's job. Matt's got the same power: anything the brain controls, Matt can control. Matt denies it. He can't do any of that stuff. Bob figures he'd better learn.
Whitebeard's Camp: While the swordsmith laments his foolishness in forging the guns for Whitebeard (He's a swordsmith. Where'd he learn to make guns? It's like getting a dentist to remove your appendix), their guard wanders away from the tent opening. Yaeko picks the lock on her chains with a hairpin(?). Everyone underestimates the fairer sex. She pulls the pot of opium away from Hiro and pleads with him to get them out of there. Hiro's hallucinating, and enjoying it. Yaeko tries to slap him out of it, begging him to concentrate. Outside, their guard is chewed out for abandoning his duty. By the time he makes it back to the tent, Hiro, Yaeko and her father are gone.
Quarantine Facility, New York, 2008: Peter and Caitlin take a shower together. Not as interesting as it sounds because they're being hosed down by a dozen men in hazmat suits. Peter's taken to a room lined with table labeled with letters. He's at the L-Q table. A man enters with a file. He's surprised to see Peter, since Peter's supposed to be dead. He shows Peter the death certificate. Caitlin's from Ireland, so she's been deported. Peter's furious, and it's obvious he doesn't know what's going on. The man explains: Shanti virus. First case: March 20, 2007. Pandemic. 93% of the worlds population have died. The remaining 7% live in quarantine and pray for a cure. He leads Peter to a window (with a biohazard sticker as in Isaac's painting). The room beyond is filled with bodies. It's been a tough week.
Molly's Room, Company Facility: Matt sits by Molly, who lies unconscious and surrounded by monitors. He apologizes for asking her to look for his dad, and tells her about his doubts. He doesn't have Maury's power, and doesn't think he can take down his father. He holds her hand and tells her he loves her. Her ECG beeps. He tells her again and is rewarded by another beep. She can hear him. He focuses his thoughts and the ECG shows she can hear those as well.
Another Hallway: Niki and Mohinder argue about Bob. Mohinder doesn't like his morally gray plan to use the virus. Niki is grateful for the help they've given her. She still carries a lot of guilt over the people she's killed. Mohinder leaves her in the hallway and goes to fetch the virus. D.L. appears in the hallway and taunts her for thinking herself cured. Mohinder returns and D.L. vanishes. Niki doesn't tell Mohinder about the manifestation because she doesn't want him to think she's going crazy again. Niki and Mohinder continue along the hallway, passing a closed door. After they've gone, the door opens to reveal Maury.
An Office: Bob works at a computer (Cisco Video Surveillance Monitor) while Nathan examines a wall shelf lined with file boxes. Each box is labeled with a name. Nathan knows the other families: Linderman, Nakamura, Pratt, Deveaux, but he doesn't know Adam Monroe. Adam Monroe is the one who brought the Twelve together, convinced them they could do some good. He shows Nathan a newspaper clipping about a snowfall in Miami. It doesn't say “Tsunami wipes out eastern seaboard,” so the Twelve must have averted it. Now Adam is the one trying to kill them. He's using Maury as a blunt instrument. He thinks his abilities make him a God, and he wants to punish humanity with holocausts, and plagues. Linderman was his disciple. The locked Adam up, but he's escaped and now he's after revenge. Nathan doesn't care until Bob reveals that Peter is still alive.
Quarantine Facility, 2008: Peter's taken to another room where he finds Angela waiting for him. She tells him about his abilities and about Nathan, who died in the first outbreak. Peter can save them by going back in time and changing the past. Nathan grows frustrated at his inability to control his power and seems to use Matt's power to reach into Angela's mind. He gets flashes of Angela and himself at a birthday party, then more images of her from his own memory. He hugs her when he realizes who she is.
Butler House, Costa Verde: Claire and West kiss on a couch while listening to music. Claire interrupts because she has to tell him something. West concludes that it's her way of breaking up their relationship, but Claire tells him she has to get popsicles instead. The front door opens and Noah enters. West jumps up and runs to Claire, dragging her from the house. The man with Horn Rims has found them. Claire been trying to tell him that HRG is her father. West freaks out and flies off, leaving Claire on the back porch with two popsicles. Her father, wondering why she's talking to herself and carrying two frozen desserts, follows her out onto the porch. She hands him one and welcomes him home.
A Hill Above Whitebeard's Camp: Hiro, in blue pajamas (a robe, actually), and Yaeko look down on the soldiers. Yaeko wants to leave, but Hiro has to go back to destroy Whitebeard's guns. He can't stop Kensai. Hiro believes that although heartbreak has made him cruel, he is still a good man. He tells Yaeko to wait for him under the cherry blossoms, and vanishes.
Company Facility: As Mohinder prepares a dose of the virus, Maury forces Niki to hallucinate again. D.L. appears and convinces her that she's being used by the company, that instead of atoning for her sins, she's digging herself deeper. Mohinder wonders why she's talking to herself, but she seems unaware of him. Bob appears in the doorway and shoots D.L. He dies in Niki's arms again, but not before he tells her she must kill Bob. D.L. vanishes and Mohinder tries to snap her out of her trance. He figures it's Maury. Jessica jumps to her feet and throws Mohinder across the room, then picks up the syringe and heads for the door.
Whitebeard's Camp, Night: Hiro sneaks into the gun tent in a series of teleports. He opens a keg of gunpowder and pours it over the many other kegs. He then grabs a lamp and is about to light the powder when a masked swordsman enters. It's Kensai, and he knew Hiro would come. Hiro tries to explain how important history is, but Kensai cares only that he's been betrayed. The two men sword fight (as in Isaac's painting). Hiro still wants to save Kensai, but Kensai promises to kill Yaeko and lay waste to Japan. The lamp is knocked over during the fight and the straw on the floor begins to burn. Hiro disarms Kensai, throwing him to the floor, then notices how close the powder is to exploding. He offers to rescue Kensai, but Kensai refuses. As long as he lives, he will lay waste to anything Hiro loves. At the last moment, Hiro teleports away alone. The powder tent explodes, taking much of Whitebeard's camp with it.
Company Facility: In his office, Bob shows Nathan a video of Peter being checked over by company doctors. Peter's alive, and he was in Cork, Ireland until the Company lost track of him. Nathan can't believe they lost him, but before he can get answers as to how, Niki begins punching through the door (Isaac's painting? Probably. They're coming true at an alarming rate.).
Matt hears the ruckus and wakes up in his chair at Molly's bedside. He draws his gun, runs out of Molly's room and shouts for his dad. Molly's door opens on a run-down, 1950's-style apartment kitchen. Molly's sitting at the table, but jumps up when Matt enters. The nightmare man's been keeping her there. Matt doesn't accept that they're trapped. He struggles to open the door while yelling for his dad.
Niki takes out the door to Bob's office with one last punch while Maury watches. He hears Matt and turns around to find himself standing in the kitchen with Matt and Molly. Matt brought him there. Niki charges through the door with the syringe held like a dagger. Bob backs away, but Nathan steps forward. He tries to talk Niki down by making her think of Micah. Unable to wake from the nightmare, Niki stabs herself with the virus.
Matt and Maury face off across the kitchen table while Molly looks on. The kitchen is from the Parkman apartment on the night Maury left. Matt suddenly realizes that it's not Matt's nightmare, or even Molly's that they're trapped in. It's Maury's. Since that's true, Matt can just walk out the door. Maury disagrees. Matt's not strong enough. He's still a scared little boy. Matt denies it, starting off in a little boy voice, but growing stronger. He's a good man, a good cop, a good father to Molly, something Maury never was to Matt. Maury doesn't know what it's like to fight for someone he loves. Matt opens the door and carries Molly out, leaving Maury behind.
Matt awakens in Molly's room, sitting in his chair. Maury's lying on the floor, unconscious. Matt checks his pulse as Molly awakens and calls for him. Matt hugs her. The nightmare's over and Maury's never going to hurt her again.
Quarantine, 2008: Peter and Angela pass by a chain-link fence beyond which people are funneling toward an exit. Caitlin breaks from the pack and calls for Peter. They have a few moments with their hands touching before a guard pulls Caitlin away. She fights him, and Peter shouts for her and suddenly he's back in Adam Monroe's apartment in Montreal, alone.
Whitebeard's Camp: Hiro finds Kensai's helmet among the ruins, then teleports to the cherry blossom grove where Yaeko is waiting. He's wracked by guilt over Kensai's fate. As far as Yaeko's concerned, Hiro was Takezo Kensai. Hiro knows how the story ends: he has to go home. Yaeko promises to write down the stories that Kaito will read to young Hiro. They kiss and she weeps as Hiro vanishes.
Company Facility: Mohinder's hooked Niki up to a blood bag. The antibodies should eradicate the virus. His nose is bandaged, broken during Niki's assault. Unfortunately, the antibodies aren't working. The virus has changed, and Niki's going to die.
Yamagato Industries, Japan: Ando works away until a samurai helmet appears on his desk. He turns, overjoyed to find Hiro in the corner of his office. It's been months since they saved the world, and Hiro's overjoyed to learn that they succeeded. He wants to tell Ando and Kaito all of his adventures. But Ando has to tell him Kaito is dead.
Company Office: Bob examines a file until Mohinder enters with news about the virus. Bob promises they'll destroy the virus samples they have and keep Maury sedated. The file is Niki's only hope: it's about Claire, the daughter of Noah, who used to work for the Company. When Mohinder figures Noah won't let them take his daughter, Bob pulls a gun out of his desk drawer. They need to be prepared. He opens another file and explains that Bennet killed Ivan, his friend and mentor, last night. Bennet left fingerprints all over the crime scene: he's getting sloppy, emotional and dangerous. Mohinder confesses that he's been working with Bennet to destroy the company. He wants to do the right thing for Niki, for everyone, but he's not sure what that is. Bob assures him that Claire is their only hope to save Niki. Mohinder takes the gun.
Butler House, Costa Verde: Sandra approaches Noah as he's working, and tells him about West. Noah's devastated. Sandra thinks he's a fine boy, and they knew the day would come when Claire would want something more than just her family. In the living room, Claire frantically tries to contact West, to explain, but he's not responding to her text messages. Noah bursts in and plops the paper in her lap, demanding an explanation. Claire waves it off until Noah mentions West, then she retalliates: no one believes he was at a copy conference. He was probably out abducting people. Sandra and Lyle enter the room, drawn by the noise. Noah orders everyone to pack. It's not safe there anymore. They're leaving. Claire tells him she won't go, and runs upstairs.
Monroe Apartment, Montreal: Peter paces the apartment, trying to get back (forward?) to Caitlin, but failing. He reads Adam's note again, but doesn't remember any Adam. A noise in the next room startles him into firing off a lightning bolt that strikes someone's outstretched hand. As Peter watches, the burn from the lightning heals and the owner of the hand steps into the room. It's Adam Monroe, who was once called Takezo Kensai. He knows Peter, and they're going to change history.
