Wandering Rocks Pub, Cork, Ireland: Time has passed. The police have put up crime scene tape around a chalk outline on the floor (wouldn't that normally be around the building?) where Ricky's body lay. Caitlin stares at a picture of her brother while Peter apologizes again. Caitlin brushes it off. Ricky knew what he was doing. Peter's going to find the woman who did it, find out who she is and what she wants. He's going to start in Montreal because his plane ticket and his painting both point there. Caitlin's coming with him, against his protests, because she was in the painting too. She wants to be there when Peter finds the woman, because Caitlin's going to kill her.
Costa Verde High School: Claire's one of three girls trying out for the cheerleading squad. The existing squad watches approvingly, but the head cheerleader, Debby (sp?) vetoes all of them. One of the squad, May, speaks up for Claire, but gets no support from the others who are intimidated by Debby. Debby thinks Claire's just not extraordinary enough to be a cheerleader for Costa Verde.
Company Facility, Upstate New York: Monica, watching a gymnastics competition on a big screen, duplicates the balance beam moves of a professional gymnast. Mohinder, wearing a lab coat and carrying a clipboard, pronounces her performance flawless. She wants to go home now, if he's done. He can't tell her why she's developed adoptive muscle memory. Bob enters and calls Mohinder into another room. He sets a file labeled “Adam Monroe” down on a table and pulls a test tube from a refrigerator. It's a variant of the killer Shanti virus, and Mohinder's supposed to inject it into Monica. They want to see if the virus will prevent Monica from using her power, but not harm her. Mohinder worries the mutated virus could kill her and enter the general population. Bob figures Monica's sacrifice is for the greater good.
Molly's Room, Company Facility: Mohinder paces by Molly's bed while talking to Noah Bennet on his cell phone. Mohinder doesn't want to inject Monica. His blood might not save her from the new strain. Noah doesn't see a choice. If Mohinder doesn't, the Company will fire Mohinder and the Company will take Molly. If they're going to take down the Company, they're going to have to do bad things.
A House in Odessa, Ukraine: A woman adjusts her coat before a mirror, then calls to a small boy that they will be late for the party. An older man comes out of some other room. The woman and her grandson will be home by three, unless there's candy, in which case they'll be later. The man kisses them goodbye, then closes the door and realizes he's not alone. Bennet and the Haitian greet “Ivan,” then Bennet slugs him across the face, knocking him down.
Costa Verde High School: Claire eats lunch and watches the cheerleaders gabbing at another table. Debby is tormenting one of the others with what looks like a cupcake. West joins Claire. She failed the cheerleading auditions, and if she doesn't make the squad, her lie to her father will be obvious. West doesn't understand, since he can fly and that makes parental guidance a non-issue. Those with powers are superior to those without. He suggests that Claire take Debby down a notch. Cheerleaders fear public humiliation.
On the Road, Near the US Border, Mexico: Alejandro sleeps in the back while Maya drives. Gabriel Gray casts covetous eyes on Maya's power. In spite of her experience, her ability is a gift not a curse. He was like her, he could do amazing things and then it all went away. That's why he has to get back to Dr. Suresh. Alejandro wakes up. He wants to find a coyote to get them across the border. He doesn't want Gabriel with them because he doesn't trust him. Maya argues with him in Spanish, which Gabriel doesn't understand. In the end, Maya convinces Alejandro that they will cross with Gabriel. Alejandro is not happy.
Yamagato Fellowship Laboratory: Ando enters to discover that the restorer has begun deciphering the restored scrolls without him. They back up to. . .
Kiso Mountain, Japan, 1671. Yaeko sits, painting a picture of Whitebeard's camp while Hiro looks down on the rows of tents. She wonders where her father might be, and Hiro tells her he's in the tent with smoke coming out of it. He knows from recalling his childhood story, but she doesn't believe her father's life should rely on a lucky guess. She wonders why Hiro is trying so hard to help them and he is on the verge of telling her about his feelings, or at least making something up to avoid telling her his feelings, when Kensai returns from a scouting mission. The swordsmith is indeed in the smoldering tent. Yaeko eyes Hiro in surprise, but he deflects her curiosity with preparations for the coming battle.
House, Odessa Ukraine: Ivan is handcuffed to a chair. Bennet threatens him. He wants to know the location of the other six paintings. Ivan pleads retirement, that he works for a textile company now. Bennet doesn't buy it and threatens to have the Haitian remove Ivan's most treasured memories one by one until he has the information he needs. Ivan refuses again and the Haitian moves in.
Time passes. Ivan's forgotten numerous things about his wife, but still won't cave. Bennet's phone rings. It's Claire, wanting to borrow the car for a cheerleading session that night. Bennet allows it, but insists that she lock the doors this time. Claire wonders where he is. He's in Tulsa, at management training even though he's supposed to have been with the store for a year before they'd send him, he's a quick learner. Claire's not convinced, but since they're both lying, she doesn't push the point. She hangs up as West approaches and shows her a wool mask (balaclava?). She's in. Meanwhile, Ivan picks up on the Claire/Family angle and tries to convince Bennet to return to the company. Bennet notices a picture of Ivan's family on a mantle. Bennet can have his life back. He just has to trust Ivan.
Mexican Border: The trio come to an unfinished border fence and decide to drive around. As they start across, a bunch of armed men in “Citizen's Border Patrol” trucks cut them off. The real border patrol has been called. Gabriel tells Maya to drive around them but as she's about to, one of the men cocks his gun and stops her.
Company Installation, New York: Mohinder approaches Monica, carrying a syringe containing the virus. She doesn't like needles, but Mohinder convinces her to accept the injection. At the last moment, he changes his mind and charges into an adjoining room where Bob is working. He refuses. Bob figures that if Mohinder doesn't do it, then someone else will. Mohinder smashes the syringe and when Bob tells him there's more of the virus, he throws a chair into the refridgerator that contains the viral samples. Mohinder's taking Molly and leaving.
Mexican Border: The Citizen's Border Patrol tries to roust the trio from their car. Maya starts to panic and Alejandro tries to take hold of her hand but Gabriel stops him. They've got to get past those men and this is Maya's chance to use her gift. Maya's eyes blacken. The men around them fall to the ground and Gabriel passes out as Maya drives away.
Costa Verde High School, Night: Debby is marking weights on the foreheads of some of the cheerleaders, making fun of the ones who are overweight (??) while she drinks from a bottle in a paper bag. Claire approaches and draws her down into the empty stadium. Claire wants another chance. Debby denies it. West flies in, wearing the mask and picks Claire up, then drops her from high in the air and she splatters on the stairs. West then zooms after Debby, who screams and runs away.
Time passes. Debby is trying to explain what happened to a police man, but there's no sign of a broken Claire on the steps. Claire herself wanders up, wondering what happened. The cop asks her about the events, but she denies any knowledge. Debby's confused. A deputy finds her bottle and the police are suddenly wondering how much Debby had to drink. Everyone stares at her.
Kiso Mountain, Japan, 1671: Kensai, Hiro and Yaeko sneak into Whitebeard's camp. Kensai distracts one of the guards by allowing himself to be stabbed. Once inside, they find the swordsmith. He refuses to leave because Whitebeard made him construct guns (which are not allowed in Japan at this time). Using those guns, he will overthrow the Emperor. Hiro understands now that destroying the guns is the way that Takezo Kensai will save Japan. When Kensai agrees to destroy the guns, the swordsmith agrees to be rescued.
Company Installation, New York: Mohinder kisses Molly, who is still unconscious. Before he can start unhooking her, Bob shows up at the door to apologize. He's been with the company for thirty years and he's occasionally lost perspective. He owes Mohinder for snapping him to his senses before he did something horrible. The company needs Mohinder not only for his blood and his knowledge, but for his morality. Bob is facing someone, Adam Monroe, who needs to be stopped and the virus may be the only way to do that. Bob has someone at his disposal that will guarantee there will be no more misunderstandings. Mohinder agrees. He doesn't really have a choice.
Kiso Mountain: Kensai, Hiro, Yaeko and the swordsmith make their escape from Whitebeard's camp. Soldiers realize the swordsmith is missing and come after them. Kensai can easily deal with the swordsmen, but when one of the guards fires a gun, Hiro grabs Yaeko and teleports away with her. They appear in the forest, some distance away, with Yaeko wondering what happened.
Hiro insists that they find Kensai, who will explain everything. Yaeko stops him. He can move people from place to place. He was the one who saved her from the bandits. He was the one under the cherry blossoms. Everything that she loved in Kensai came from him. Hiro reluctantly admits that it's true, and that he loves her. They kiss, and Kensai watches from a distance.
Back in the present, at the Yamagato Fellowship, Ando reads that Hiro figures the kiss fractured spacetime. That's it, the last scroll. Ando's confused and angry. The story isn't over and his friend hasn't returned from the past yet. The restorer, confused, has no answers.
Just Inside the U.S.: The car has stopped, and Gabriel and Alejandro are outside having a fight. Maya breaks them up. Alejandro's furious at what she did, killing those men so they could enter the country. Maya had to, for all of them. Alejandro can't believe he's hearing that. Either Gabriel goes or he does. Maya convinces him to stay with them, and he does with the promise that the next time her eyes blacken, he will do nothing to save Gabriel or any other victims. While Maya gets a first aid kit from the car, Gabriel tells Alejandro that he intends to get his power back and then take Maya and Alejandro's abilities. If his powers don't come back, then he'll kill Alejandro anyway because Maya's starting to listen to him and they can have a lot of fun together.
Costa Verde: Claire is upset when she realizes what they've done to Debby and the terrible risk they took being seen, but West tries to convince her that it was the right thing and that Debby's fine. As they talk, May approaches. Debby blew over the limit and has been suspended for drinking on school property. They've got an opening, and it's Claire's if she wants it. Claire's excited and happy, and forgets all about her hesitation. May leaves the two lovers alone.
Odessa, Ukraine: (Is the connection between Odessa Tx and Odessa, Ukr deliberate?) Bennet has noticed that Ivan's family picture contains a daughter that Ivan had never mentioned. She died some time ago. All Ivan has left of her is his memories. When Bennet threatens to take them, Ivan gives up. The paintings are in a warehouse in the railyard near the car where they cornered the liquid-man (as shown in the on-line graphic novel). Ivan expects the Haitian to take his memory of Bennet's visit, but Bennet has other plans. Bennet begins trashing the room. If the Company discovers Ivan's memory loss, they'll trace it to the Haitian, and then to Bennet and his family. He can't allow that. Ivan taught him well: make it look as though he were never there. Instead, there was a simple home invasion, a senseless murder. (Wait... this makes no sense. Instead of wiping Ivan's memory, he stages a murder and LEAVES HIS FINGERPRINTS EVERYWHERE?). Ivan pleads for his life. If Bennet takes this last step, there will be no going back: he'll have condemned himself to hell. Bennet shoots him.
Kiso Mountain, Japan: Hiro finds Kensai tending a small fire. He's been looking for Kensai everywhere. Kensai reveals that he saw Hiro and Yaeko. Hiro first convinced him he could be a hero, then betrayed him. Hiro admits his love for Yaeko, and hers for Hiro, but insists that it was accidental and that she is Kensai's princess. He will not stand in the way of that, but they must destroy Whitebeard's guns. Kensai agrees, but when Hiro steps forward to lead them down into the camp, Kensai knocks him out with the butt of his sword. Whitebeard appears, with the swordsmith and Yaeko in chains. For delivering Hiro, Kensai can have anything he wants. Kensai eyes Yaeko.
Dawson House, New Orleans: Monica is escorted to the door by Bob, who provides her with a list of numbers and an ipod(?) video programmed with everything from plumbing to martial arts. Monica's impressed and a little unnerved: answers, advice, gifts – they've given her everything she wanted. Bob believes her power is amazing, and that New Orleans could use some amazing in it. Bob leaves.
Company Facility: Mohinder is surprised to see Niki enter. She's surprised to be there too, but the company has done so much for her that she owes them. She's going to be working with them for a while. She's his new partner. Bob told her to make sure there are no more misunderstandings. Mohinder looks nervous, and Niki looks very Jessica-like.
Odessa Warehouse: Bennet pulls the last of the paintings from a crate and spreads them on the floor. The paintings (in some order, but I don't know which) show: Someone (Claire?) lying in a heap on some stairs. a hand holding a test tube half-full of something white. A blond (Niki?) pounding at a door. (6)Kensai in Samurai armor sword fighting with someone in blue pajamas with black hair. (7) A wild-eyed, wild-haired man with a smoking pistol in one hand. A picture of someone (Peter) with white eyes, and a hazardous materials label in one corner. He has no idea what it means. (Neither do I).
Montreal, Canada: Peter and Caitlin pause in front of the door shown in the painting Peter created last episode. The door has a half-helix symbol over it. They enter to find a crowded office/store/apartment? There's a tag on a mirror with Peter's name on it, and he turns it over to read “We were right about the company. The world is in danger – Adam.” Peter doesn't recognize anything, not even the name Adam. He has no idea why the world's in danger or what he's supposed to do about it. Caitlin hugs him while he demands someone show him who he is and what his future holds. The scene around them changes. They're in New York, standing in the middle of a deserted Times square. Peter has no idea how they got there. He grabs a floating piece of paper. It's an evacuation notice for June 14, 2008, next year. The notice mentions “deteriorating conditions,” and “last resort” refuges, but gives no hints as to the nature of the problem.
