Heroes News : Season Finale Could Come Early For 'Heroes'

Heroes News

This according to TVGuide:

Quote:

Heroes' second season may be coming to a close a lot sooner than expected due to the forthcoming apocalypse, also known in some circles as the damn writers' strike.

Sources confirm that the show is going back and shooting an alternate ending to the Dec. 3 episode that, if used, would allow the episode to function as a season finale in the event of a strike. Originally, the episode was only supposed to serve as the conclusion of the current "Generations" arc. Should an 11th-hour agreement be reached and a strike averted (fingers crossed!), the alt ending would likely be scrapped.

I'm glad they have plans in place for the possibility of a strike, but what happens when the strike is over? Maybe they go on strike for a week and then start writing again while we watch re-runs until next September?

People were complaining about 7 weeks hiatuses, this is bad.

I really hope they resolve this...an early end can't be good not with all comments people have been making this year. (Unfair comments in my opinion to boot.)

Writing is important, writing makes a good show great. I really hope a good compromise can happen soon.

Do we really need episodes of Deal or No Deal instead? Or something similar?

:faints:

The Writers Union in Hollywood is claiming unfair compensation for, I believe, residuals from DVD and Video on demand sales, I understand. Basically, they aren't getting paid for the newer types of viewing that have evolved the last few years. Expect his to continue for a while.

If you need an example, with the new popularity of "TV on DVD", many older shows only paid for musical rights for syndicated broadcast. This includes series as recent as mid-90s, when a handful tried the VHS set route. These shows are having to remove any music that was not covered in that contract, or the musician will not allow their music to be reproduced for the DVD release. Prime example: ROSEANNE s8 had to cut a very funny scene with the two Becky's (returning Lecy Goranson and interim Sarah Chalke) parodying "The Patty Duke Show" opening (WITH Bill!) and another scene involving Milton Berle. The former was cut/blacked out due to music rights, nobody can get a straight answer on why the Berle Estate made them cut Uncle Milty out of the "December Bride" ep.

There have been threats and minor strikes in the past, but the biggest one I recall was in 80s, and really knocked a lot of shows for a loop.
(If you ever hear a "Manimal" joke, it is concerning this period.)

The immediate impact will be on daily talk shows (Letterman, Daily Show, Conan, View-?, but probably not Jerry Springer, tho), most scripted shows you won't see affected until Holiday break/New Years, as most of them have already filmed enough eps to cover their airings thru that period by now. (Main two breaks are Nov-post New Year and 'summer', which really starts around April).

There will also be a lull in theatrical movie production, as the just announced "Justice League" and Trek films (latter starring Zach Quinto as Spock) are the big financial concerns in works, right now.

I understand WHY they are striking, but there really is no "off" season to get everything taken care of without interrupting SOME schedules for TV or movies.

I just hope everything is worked out quickly and smoothly.
