I'd like to say that I missed Mohinder's voiceovers during the hiatus, but I'd be lying.
Suresh Apartment, Brooklyn: Mohinder's set Molly up in her bed with an I.V. She's lying there, unconscious and feverish. They can't take her to a hospital because no hospital is equipped to handle her problem. Mohinder's angry that Matt asked her to find his dad. Now Matt's got to find him because it's the only clue they have to what's wrong with Molly. Matt's reluctant, but Molly's given him Dad's address and has faced her nightmares for Matt. It's time for Matt to do the same. As he's about to leave, Matt remembers Angela Petrelli must have known his father too.
Burger Bonanza, New Orleans: Police examine the scene of the crime while Monica sweeps up and Camille fills salt and pepper shakers. One of the cops asks her to I.D. the man who tried to rob the place, pulling out a picture of Lionel Stills, a local gang banger. Monica claims that everything's a blur. It all happened too fast. Camille nods approval in the background. The cop understands. They don't want trouble, but Stills has hit three other burger joints and the only way he can be taken off the streets is if someone becomes a hero and identifies him. Monica declines. He can't help a neighborhood that won't help itself, but hands over his card, and leaves.
Wandering Rocks Pub, Cork, Ireland: Caitlin hands a closed sign on the pub door as Peter wanders out of the back room. It's the middle of the afternoon, but she's closing up because she needs a break. Peter embraces and kisses her. She wonders why he hasn't opened his box yet. He's worried that he's got a dark side, that the person he was isn't who he wants to be. Caitlin's not worried. There's only good in him. Peter's confused. Before, she didn't want him to open the box. But then he kissed her the first time and now she does. As he carries her into the back room, she explains that she wants to know whether he's got anyone looking for him: family, girlfriend. Peter closes the door. If they're out there, they can keep looking.
Harbor, Cork, Ireland: Will steps out of the container where he and the others found Peter, telling the story to a young blond woman. She has a picture of Peter. She represents a company that is looking to keep Peter out of trouble. Will's confused. If Peter's so dangerous, why'd they send a little girl to take care of him? She walks away, and once she rounds the corner of a container, sticks out her hand toward the metal side. Sparks play from her fingers. She can take care of herself.
Police Station, Manhattan: Matt hands some papers in at a desk. Nathan, with mussed hair and two days worth of whiskers, follows angrily. His mother didn't do it, so why did they haul her into another interrogation? She didn't give Matt anything, and that doesn't surprise Nathan. Matt drags him to a quiet corner. He believes they're all connected: Angela, Kaito, and Matt's dad. He's got to find his father because of what happened to Molly. Nathan insists on coming along although Matt believes it's going to be very dangerous. Nathan has to do this, and it's not exactly police business, so Matt has no right to shut him out. Matt figures Nathan can get there faster because he can fly. Nathan denies being a cargo jet.
Wandering Rocks Pub, Cork, Ireland: Ricky enters with a longshoreman. Caitlin and Peter are kissing in a corner until Ricky calls Pete over to talk privately. The longshoreman explains about the blond on the docks looking for Peter. Ricky offers to take care of it, even though Peter figures he can handle it. Peter doesn't think Ricky has a stake in what happens, but after seeing Peter and Caitlin carrying on, Ricky figures he does indeed have an investment. He sends Peter to Caitlin's flat up the hill, promising to take care of the blond. Peter's not to tell Caitlin about what's going on.
Outside Burger Bonanza: Camille comes out to find Monica among the dumpsters, contemplating the garbage. She wants an explanation for what happened. Monica pretends to misunderstand, but Camille won't have it. Monica doesn't know what's happening, or even what she is anymore. She was supposed to be somebody, the first person in her family to go to college, but now. . . her body is doing things without her mind even realizing it: first the tomato rose, then the wrestling moves. She's learning things from television. She's confused and disoriented, and although Camille reassures her everything's going to be alright, she complains she's been at the restaurant all night. She's going home to rest.
Apt 9, Philadelphia: Matt and Nathan approach the door, but Matt can't bring himself to draw his gun and act like a policeman. He's spent years trying to figure out what to say to his dad, but now he doesn't have a clue. Nathan grows impatient and knocks on the door. Matt can thank him later. There's no response, so Matt busts the door down. Inside the decrepit apartment he faces an old man with a shotgun, looking quite different from the dapper man in the Company photograph. The old man demands to know who Matt is, but recognizes him when Nathan (hiding around a corner) accidentally says his last name. The shock distracts Dad enough for Matt to disarm and cuff him. He demands Dad release Molly Walker, but Dad won't. She's looking for him and he's trying to protect himself. He had the shotgun ready because of a picture he received. Matt picks it up from the table and sees that it's Dad's part of the Company photograph with the half-helix marked on it.
Dad, Angela, Kaito, Linderman, they're all connected. They found each other years ago and got together figuring they could do some good, maybe save the world. Matt doesn't buy it, and Dad's surprised Matt's still bitter after all these years. He recognizes Nathan, who presses Matt to shorten the interrogation by reading his mind. Dad's surprised, but dares Matt to do it. When Matt does, he gets feedback and pain. Dad's got the same ability, but if Matt uncuff's him, Dad'll tell him everything he wants to know.
Dawson Home, New Orleans: Monica enters to find Micah playing her mother's piano (Noah Grey-Cabey is actually an accomplished concert pianist). Nana's pleased there's a musician in the family once again. Monica sits down beside him and he stops, worried he's offended her. He hasn't and she encourages him to resume playing, which he does. They both miss their mothers, although Monica's sure Niki is missing Micah right back even though she didn't tell Micah where she was going or what she was doing. Without thinking about it, she places her hands on the keys and begins playing part of Micah's tune. Micah figures she plays too, but Monica denies it then looks down at her hands in surprise and horror as they play part of the piece quickly and flawlessly. She jumps up from the piano stool and when Micah asks her what she was doing, Monica has no answer.
Suresh Apartment: Mohinder calls Bennet, who's with the Haitian in what looks like England. Molly's getting worse. He can't take her to the hospital, so he's going to take her to the Company. Bennet's against the idea. Even though they might be the only ones who understand what's wrong with her, they're still the people Mohinder and Bennet are fighting against. Mohinder can't forget which side he's on. Mohinder hasn't: he's on Molly's side.
Apt. 9, Philadelphia: Matt uncuff's his father, who tries to be fatherly. Matt brushes him off and demands the promised explanation. Dad explains that the 12's powers came out of nowhere, but they found each other and banded together to save the world. They were powerful, almost invincible, and some of them decided they were and started to misuse their powers. Nathan wonders how, but Dad can't explain it. He can show them, though. His gift, and Matt's, just starts out as mind reading, but it becomes so much more. He has a few things from “back then” that will explain and show Matt just how much more. Despite misgivings that Nathan shares, Matt follows his dad into a room at the back of the apartment. The doors slam closed and the lights go out. Matt finds himself a prisoner in a cell with a guard who speaks backward (?). Nathan tries to force the door open and it gives after a few pushes. He steps through the door and out onto the roof of the Deveaux building after the bomb has exploded. It's raining ash, and ruined buildings are on fire as far as the eye can see. He can't believe it. Matt tries to convince the guard that he doesn't belong in the cell, but the guard responds in gibberish except for the last few words which echo Matt's. In the real world, Dad closes the door on Matt and Nathan, wishing them pleasant dreams as he grabs his jacket and heads out of the apartment.
A Museum Workroom, Japan: Ando has brought some of Hiro's scrolls to a restorer because they are too damaged to read. The restorer authenticates their age, and buys Ando's story that they were left to him by a friend. In return for being the first to read them, the restorer agrees to work on them. He looks suspicious when he recognizes the name on the scrolls, but Ando insists it's a common name and we segue to feudal Japan.
Feudal Japan: Yaeko sits illustrating Kensai's adventures while Hiro's voiceover describes the trials he's helped Kensai face. They've pieced together the last of the map to Whitebeard's camp. Everything is going according to plan: Kensai's heroism and the blossoming love between Kensai and Yaeko at the expense of Hiro's feelings.
Dawson Home, New Orleans: Monica finishes making a tray of tomato roses. Micah enters the kitchen and she covers it up hurriedly, looking disturbed by her skill. Micah thinks he knows how she did the trick with the piano. He shows her how he can manipulate electronics by turning a nearby television on and off just by touching it. It runs in the family: his dad could walk through walls and his mom. . . well, he doesn't want to get started on her. He pulls out a 9th Wonders comic with a picture of a heroine named St. Joan on it. She's a muscle mimic, a copy cat, someone who can do anything she sees. She shows him the roses, starting to realize what she's becoming. Micah suggests they go test his theory out.
Company Facility: Mohinder observes Molly, who lies hooked up to monitors but still unconscious. Bob comes up beside him. Mohinder's done the right thing. They'll take care of her. In the meantime, Mohinder's got another field assignment. Bob hands him a folder and a taser. Mohinder's shocked. Bob explains that not everyone is in control of their abilities and it's often easier to get forgiveness than permission. Niki tears off the doors at the end of the hall and stalks up it toward Mohinder and Bob. Mohinder steps forward, saying her name, but she doesn't recognize him and throws him against a wall. She then picks Bob up by the neck. Before she can hurt him further, Mohinder tasers her and then demands to know what's going on.
A Street, New Orleans: Micah and Monica watch teenagers play basketball, skateboard and skip double dutch. Micah suggests Monica try out one of the activities, and she chooses skipping, at which she was never any good before. One of the skipping girls is reflected for a moment in Monica's eyes. To everyone's surprise and pleasure, Monica turns out to be very good. She and Micah are excited at this proof of her ability.
Caitlin's Flat, Cork, Ireland: Peter and Caitlin enter. It's raining outside. The flat is just one cluttered room, but it's better than the back of a pub. Caitlin's a painter, and her pictures are set up around the flat. Peter thinks they're good. Caitlin doesn't know why Peter wanted to come up there, and doesn't buy his excuse that he just wanted to sleep in a real bed. Peter pull out his box. He's decided to face whatever he used to be. They sit on the bed with the box between them. Whatever he finds won't change the way he feels about her. He opens it. Inside is a passport with his name, a plane ticket from New York to Montreal, a picture of himself and Nathan, whom he doesn't recognize, and some cash. Peter's frustrated because it doesn't tell him anything useful about himself. He stands and begins pacing the apartment until a blank canvas in the corner catches his eye. It ripples as he looks at it, and he approaches. He picks up a pallet and brush, and his eyes go white as Isaac's power kicks in. Caitlin watches, terrified as Peter begins painting in a trance.
Wandering Rocks Pub, Cork, Ireland: Ricky brings a case of bottles out of the back room to find the blond from the docks waiting at the bar. They exchange polite banter, then she asks about Peter and shows him the picture. Ricky denies seeing him. The blond doesn't buy it because so many people at the dock said they'd seen him in the pub. Ricky denies it again. He's sorry he can't help her, but he's closing up, and she should leave. She turns to go but stops at the door and welds the lock shut with a burst of electricity from her hand. When she turns back, she fires a bolt of lightning at Ricky.
Company Facility: Niki lies restrained on a hospital bed while Bob and Mohinder examine her. She's sorry for what happened. Bob understands multiple personality disorder isn't going to go away all at once but they'll help. She'll get better. Bob leaves the room, and Mohinder starts to undo her restraints. He'll get her out of there. She fights him. She's there voluntarily. These are the only people who understand what she's done, what she's capable of. Mohinder stops trying to release her and stares at her in confusion.
Dreamscape, Apt. 9: Nathan stands on the rooftop until he hears his name and turns to see someone he thinks it Peter lying on the ground behind him. It's not. It's Nathan, only horribly scarred. Nathan recoils, but his doppleganger confronts him no matter where he turns. In his cell, Matt finds a baby on the floor, crying. He turns to shout for the guard, but when he turns back, Janice is there, holding it. He asks who's baby it is, she said he wasn't the father. But Matt reads minds, he knew the truth and Matt left anyway just like his father had left him, just like he's going to leave Molly. She walks out of the cell, and Matt tries to follow, protesting his innocence. The guard tries to stop him, and they fight. In flashes from both dreams, we see that Matt's guard is actually Nathan, and Nathan's dobbleganger is actually Matt. They're beating each other senseless without realizing it. As Nathan gets the upper hand and begins strangling Matt, Matt's power kicks in and he realizes what's going on. In desperation, he sends his thoughts right into Nathan's mind, demanding he wake up. He does, and the two find themselves on the floor of a room in Apt. 9 that their fight has reduced to a shambles. Matt now knows why Molly calls him the nightmare man, but he doesn't know how he freed them. They search the room and find a picture of Bob with the symbol over his face. Bob is next.
Feudal Japan: According to the scroll Ando reads, Hiro, Kensai and Yaeko climb up a ridge to Whitebeard's camp. Hiro wants to leave Yaeko behind for safety, but she refuses and Kensai decides they'll face Whitebeard together. Then they catch sight of the camp, and the army in it. They will attack that night, the three of them. In modern Japan, the scroll is too damaged for Ando to read further. The restorer will do his best.
Dawson House, New Orleans: Alone in the living room at night, Monica channel surfs until she finds a Bruce Lee movie (Enter the Dragon). She starts copying the moves she sees. Micah watches. What she can do is amazing, but she still doesn't know what she's supposed to do with her power. She's just looking for some answers. They need to keep it a secret, and pinky-swear. Then Monica sends him to bed. As soon as he's gone, she answers a knock at the door. It's Mohinder. He knows she's got questions. He's got answers (like Radio Shack?)
A Car in Cork, in the Rain: The blond answers her cell phone. We only hear her half of the conversation. She hasn't found him but she will. She had to use a little persuasion, just some guy. She killed him. She's getting chewed out over the phone and is trying to explain herself, but whoever it is orders her to come home. It's her assignment and she promises not to. . . She's sorry, Daddy. It won't happen again. She hangs up and drives off.
Caitlin's Flat: Peter finishes painting a picture of he and Caitlin on a street in Montreal (Hey! I've been there! Isaac is dead. Long live Isaac!). She has to explain what happened when Peter snaps out of his trance. She gets a call, and panics at the news. She and Peter rush down to the pub to find Tuko leaning over the burnt corpse of her dead brother. She dissolves in tears on the floor as Peter tries to comfort her. He's going to find them. He can't hide anymore.
