Bennet house, Odessa, night. Claire and her father arrive home from the school and enter the kitchen, Claire still bloody and wrapped in her father?s suit jacket. Bennet?s been silent all the way home, since Claire told him what she could do. Still silent, he wets a cloth and gives it to her to clean up the blood on her face. She?s worried that he?s mad at her. As he grabs two glasses and a jug of chocolate milk from the fridge, he denies it. He?s just been thinking. He?s knew about her long before she made the tapes with Zach. Claire?s appalled, unable to believe that he knew and yet still left her to feel alone and like a freak. Bennet?s not proud of that, or of many other things he?s done to keep her safe. Jackie died because Sylar thought she was Claire. Although Bennet assures her Sylar has been taken care of, there are other people who want what she has and are willing to hurt her to get it. No one can know, not even Claire?s mom or brother. Bennet is brought up short when Claire confesses that Lyle found out, and that Zach has known for a while. Bennet is going to talk to Lyle. Claire has to talk to Zach and destroy any tapes they?ve made. Claire, frightened by her father?s intensity, agrees.
Woods outside Union Wells High school, Odessa, morning. Matt and Audrey accompany the forensics team examining the area where Sylar disappeared. The team has taped off the area, and is casting footprints and marking a pool of blood. Matt?s sure it was Sylar from the M.O. Although Jacqueline Wilcox, the victim, still has her brain, the incision around her skull indicates that Sylar was interrupted in the process of extracting it. Audrey thinks the interruption might be the hospice nurse they have in custody. Matt gulps down a handful of pills while they examine the blood spill. Audrey thinks the blood is Sylar?s, but that he couldn?t have gotten far after losing that much blood. Matt notices two other sets of footprints in the area, possibly accomplices. Matt?s taken five handfuls of those pills today, and when Audrey calls him on it; Matt snaps and blames his headaches. A moment later, he admits that Janice?s infidelity has gotten to him. Audrey callously dismisses his distress. Janice messed up once, and Audrey?s sure Matt?s done it too. When Matt denies it, Audrey is skeptical. Law enforcement attracts certain male and female personalities: dogs and !@#%es. After examining the prints again, they leave to speak with Peter Petrelli.
FBI lockup, Odessa. Peter sleeps on a bare bed in a cell with one Plexiglas wall. Nathan enters, wearing a suit and bow tie, and wakes Peter up. Peter?s surprised to see him, but Nathan figures he always drops whatever he?s doing to get Peter out of trouble. He?ll get Peter out soon. Peter brings up Isaac?s painting. It showed Peter dead, so Nathan destroyed it in an attempt to keep Peter safe. Peter tried to be a hero, but it didn?t work out so well. Nathan figures Peter?s not a hero, not a fighter. He?s got to realize that life is a lot bigger than he is and that?s okay because the world needs nurses too. Peter struggles with this and turns away from Nathan. When he?s with Nathan, Hiro, Isaac, Claire? he can do the things they can do. Peter thinks they?re all the same somehow and that they have to stop the bomb Isaac painted, but he has no idea at all. Nathan?s voice changes, and when Peter turns back, he finds Sylar sitting where his brother had been, taunting Peter that he?ll fail because he doesn?t understand power. Peter screams, and awakens in his cell. Nathan?s arrival and transformation into Sylar were only a dream.
Roadside rest stop, Utah, Night. D.L. puts Micah in the passenger seat of their station wagon, and goes around front to climb in the driver?s side. As he reaches for the door, a gunshot hits him in the right shoulder and he falls to the ground. Micah screams and starts to rise, but D.L. orders him to stay put. In a tree across the road, Jessica pulls the trigger again. This time the bullet strikes the car door inches from D.L.?s head. Jessica centers his head in her sights. The third bullet passes through D.L.?s skull, and punctures the tire. It leaves only a momentary ripple as he phases through it. Before she can fire again, D.L. drags himself around the front of the car, putting it between them. Jessica crosses the highway with a pistol and cautiously approaches the station wagon. As she looks through the windows, she catches a reflection of Niki, which stares at her in horror. The station wagon is empty. D.L. and Micah are gone.
Primatech?s hidden complex, Odessa. Bennet finds Eden sitting outside a secured room where Sylar slept through the night. Bennet keys a code into the door lock. An indicator turns from red to green. Bennet enters and Eden tries to follow, but Bennet stops her and goes in alone. Sylar, sewn up as best they could, sleeps on a bed in a fortified cell with a thick Plexiglas front. Bennet wakes him by turning on the overhead lights, pleased that Sylar isn?t as untouchable as everyone had thought. Sylar sits up and stares at him, but his abilities don?t work in the cell. Bennet calls him ?Gabriel Grey,? and refers to him as an ?insignificant watch maker,? aggravating him. Sylar brags that his ability to see how things work, what makes them tick, made him an excellent restorer of timepieces. Bennet?s organization is also interested in how things tick. Everyone they?ve ?met? has had only one power, Gabriel has acquired several. Sylar figures he?s special, and Bennet understands how important it is to him to be that way. All the alterations his DNA required to take on those powers have degraded Gabriel, driven him mad. Sylar counters that he can?t be held forever, and taunts Bennet that when he escapes, he?s going to take on one more power: Claire?s. Bennet wrestles down his reaction and calls him ?Gabriel? one more time. Sylar flies into a rage, and Bennet turns out the lights with a smile of satisfaction.
Primatech?s hidden Complex, Odessa. Bennet strolls down a hallway speaking to someone on a cell phone. Bennet stresses that Sylar is too dangerous to hold, but his advice is ignored and he hangs up in disgust. Eden meets him in the hallway, and Bennet confirms that their marching orders are to keep Sylar alive. Eden is appalled, after what he tried to do to Claire. She could order him to kill himself, and no one would have to know. Bennet stops in his tracks, obviously torn between his obligations and his preferences. Finally, he dismisses her suggestion. He doesn?t have time for the debate. The Haitian appears at the far end of the hallway, waiting for Bennet. As Bennet walks away from Eden, she shouts after him that he knows she?s right, and if the Haitian could speak, he?d tell Bennet that she?s right as well. The Haitian nods, but Bennet does not respond.
Forest, Utah, morning. Micah and D.L., who still carries the metal case of money, stumble through the woods. They stop and D.L. takes off his jacket, draping it on a bush. They then walk backward in their own footsteps. Micah knows that the shooter wasn?t a policeman. Policemen have to warn you before they shoot. D.L. knows that not all policemen follow the rules. They wander off through the woods until they find a hunting shack. The door is locked, but D.L. phases through it and unlocks it. Inside, he finds some cloth. He sits on a rock outside while he and Micah tear the cloth into bandages. Micah figures Jessica was the shooter. D.L. isn?t so sure. It looked like Niki, and although Micah protests that Niki would never hurt D.L. on purpose, the gunshot in D.L.?s shoulder says otherwise. D.L. grows woozy and passes out against the rocks. Micah desperately tries to wake him up.
An interrogation room, Odessa. Peter Petrelli sits alone, pale and haggard, holding his head. Audrey and Matt enter the room. She?s impressed with his brother?s connections, even down in Texas. They had to climb over six lawyers in order to interview Peter. Peter does not respond until Audrey asks if he?s alright. His head feels like it?s about to split open. Matt pulls out his pill bottle and a bottle of water and sets them before Peter with instructions to help himself. Audrey knows that he didn?t kill the girl. The blood on him is all his own, but there?s not a mark on him and they can?t explain that. Peter gulps the drugs eagerly and asks to go, if he?s not being charged. Audrey wants to know what a hospice nurse from New York is doing at a Texas high-school homecoming, but Peter?s brother told him not to say anything. Audrey gives Matt a nod. They don?t need Peter to talk. Matt stares fixedly at the back of Peter?s head. Peter winces as he hears voices in his head. He and Matt flinch in painful synch as thoughts bounce between them until Peter grabs his head and wonders aloud what Matt?s doing to him. Matt breaks contact and sits at the table. He heard, ?Save the cheerleader.? When Audrey thinks, ?too late, she?s dead,? both men hear the thought. Peter?s shocked, and can?t believe Claire?s dead. He and Matt both hear each other?s thoughts, making it difficult to tell who?s thinking what, but both are surprised that the other can hear thoughts, and wonder if the other is one of ?them.? The victim was Jackie Wilcox. Peter is furious that Sylar hasn?t been caught and no one is protecting Claire. Audrey wants to know how Peter knows who Sylar is after, but Peter demands they protect Claire. Matt reads enough of his thoughts to verify Peter?s concern, and then Matt and Audrey leave to find Claire. Peter wants out now, but Audrey won?t let him go until she gets some answers.
Suresh Apartment, Brooklyn. Mohinder enters, carrying a couple of boxes and his shoulder bag. He sets them down inside and turns to put his bag on the coat stand near the door, but spies a note hanging there. It says, ?I knew you?d be back. Now get to work. Love, Eden.? A short time later, Mohinder is on the phone with someone. The map is set up on the wall behind him, its strings and pins indicating the location of ?special? people. Mohinder?s frustrated. He faxed the list of names and addresses to the person on the other end of the phone. At least nine of the names on that list are dead, all from the same killer. Shouldn?t they do something? Mohinder doesn?t get any cooperation, and so slams the phone down. He picks up a sticky note from the desk and turns to the map. It has Isaac Mendez? name and address on it.
Primatech?s Hidden Complex, Odessa. Eden enters the room where she?s surprised to find Isaac sketching. He?s surprised too, but the locks on the door helped. He hasn?t drawn anything predictive, and doubts he can do it sober. Eden assures him he?ll get there. Isaac?s just happy to be drawing comics again. You don?t have to take comics too seriously. Eden understands. The cheerleader is alive. Isaac?s relieved that Peter got to her in time, but Eden figures it was actually Isaac and his gift that saved her. She avoids looking at him as she tells him Sylar won?t be able to hurt anyone any more. Isaac?s excited. It means they can change the future, they can stop the explosion. Eden wishes him good luck and gets up to go. She?s going ?off the reservation.? Isaac wonders why he would bother to paint the future when there?s no one around to change it. Eden kisses him, hands him a cell phone with a Primatech calling card, and leaves him with her belief that he can change it. Isaac stares at the painting of Hiro and Ando under the bloody homecoming sign.
Union Wells High school, Odessa. Behind Hiro and Ando, workmen take down the bloody banner. Hiro walks away, despondent over his inability to save the cheerleader, and fearing he will be unable to save New York. Ando tries to bolster his spirits. Maybe the message, ?Save the cheerleader, save the world,? just implies the order they need to do things. Hiro refuses to be comforted, convinced that his future incarnation?s words are an if-then statement, and he should know because he said them. Ando points out that future Hiro isn?t the same as present Hiro, and there may still be hope. Hiro stops walking, then dismisses the thought. Regardless, two people have died, and Hiro and Ando must honor their loss by continuing their mission: find Peter, find Isaac, stop the bomb. Destiny is calling them! And the ringing is coming from Hiro?s shoulder bag. Hiro pulls out his cell phone and answers it. It?s Isaac, and it?s time he and Hiro meet. Ando wishes destiny would lose their phone number.
Interrogation room, Odessa. Audrey sits at a table with Claire and her father as Claire retells the events of the previous night, visibly upset that she ran and left her friend to die. Outside the room, Matt watches, concentrating on Claire?s thoughts as Audrey asks if Sylar exhibited anything unusual. Claire exchanges looks with her father, offended that Audrey doesn?t find Jackie?s death unusual enough. Audrey means unusual, like being able to fall five stories and walk away. Matt?s unable to hear anything, although he tries numerous times. Peter Petrelli fell from the coliseum and walked away without a scratch. Claire doesn?t have a scratch either, even though they found some of her blood at the crime scene. Claire grows defensive. She?s told them everything she knows. Mr. Bennet interrupts; does Audrey have everything she needs? Audrey looks toward where Matt stands hidden on the other side of the glass, and he tries one final time, but still draws a blank. Bennet and Claire are about to leave when Claire asks to see Peter.
Hallway outside the interrogation room. Matt rushes out in time to catch Audrey, Bennet and Claire. He shakes Bennet?s hand and stresses that they will do everything in their power to catch Sylar. Bennet appreciates it, but Matt?s focused entirely on Claire. After the handshake, Bennet and Claire proceed down the hall. Audrey knows they?re hiding something, and expects Matt to know what it is. He doesn?t. He couldn?t hear anything. It wasn?t like silence, it was like static or something interfering with whatever his head normally does to hear thoughts. Audrey?s scornful of the new excuse. She and Matt walk toward another room while Matt explains that it isn?t new. The last time he heard/felt it was in the bar just before he passed out and lost a day. The door closes behind them, and the camera pans back to reveal the Haitian lounging against a corner, just out of their sight.
Utah woods. Niki/Jessica runs through the woods on the trail of D.L. and Micah until she finds the coat he had discarded. The half-helix tattoo is clearly visible on her shoulder. She picks it off the push and stares at it. Her face undergoes a transformation from cool and confident to upset and frightened. Niki drops the jacket, horrified at what Jessica has done, at what Niki has done. She tries to run away, but stumbles and falls to the ground near a puddle. The reflection of Jessica stands across the puddle, demanding Niki get up. Niki?s furious at Jessica. She could have missed, could have shot Micah. Jessica laughs. She never misses; Niki saw D.L.?s jacket. D.L.?s a criminal; he brought danger into their house. Niki can?t want Micah to end up like that. Niki believes Jessica?s wrong about D.L. She?s out of control. Jessica?s a part of Niki; she does what Niki says. Niki laughs again. It doesn?t work like that, not anymore. Jessica?s just doing what Niki is too weak to do. Micah calls for his mother from somewhere nearby. Jessica draws a gun from the rear of her waist and runs off. There is no longer any sign of Niki.
Holding cell, Odessa P.D. Peter sits, occasionally coughing. His face is pale, his body covered in sweat under his bloodstained t-shirt. Claire and her father enter the cell. Peter?s relieved to see she?s alright. Bennet introduces himself. He?s owes Peter his life for saving Claire. Peter was just in the right place. Bennet nods and says, with ironic sincerity, that he may someday be in the right place to return the favor. Peter coughs so hard that he staggers and has to lean against a wall, but assures Bennet that he feels fine. Claire asks her father to leave the room, and when the door on the cell has closed, she turns to Peter, wondering how long he?s known about his ability. He would have died, if he hadn?t been able to. . . At first, Peter doesn?t know what she means, but then realizes that she can heal. Claire thought she was all alone, but now she knows there?s another. That?s not why Peter saved her though. He just knew he had to, in order to save the world. Claire thinks that?s a bit much, and Peter admits that he doesn?t understand the connection, but he will. Claire saved his life. He thinks he died. Claire shrugs. She?s died before, and it wasn?t a big deal. Peter?s not like her, but Bennet interrupts further explanation by tapping on the glass wall to get Claire?s attention. She puts him off. Peter admits that healing?s new to him. Claire?s surprised he didn?t know he was going to heal when he pulled Sylar off the building with him. Peter tries to laugh, but coughs instead. Diving off the building without knowing he was going to live through it was stupid. Claire disagrees. Her father taps more insistently on the glass and Claire rises to leave. Before she passes through the door, she turns back to let Peter know he?s totally her hero.
Outside the forest hunting shack, Utah. Niki/Jessica runs into the clearing in front of the hunting shack, and Micah runs out to meet her. D.L. needs help. He?s bleeding. Micah points to the shack, and as he leads her to the door, Jessica pulls the pistol from the back of her belt again. She barges in and meets the digging end of a shovel that D.L. has swung at her stomach. She falls back onto the ground, dropping the gun. D.L., conscious but weak, staggers over to it and manages to pick it up before Jessica recovers. Unfortunately, he can?t raise it to cover her in time, and a kick from her sends him flying through the air to land hard some distance away. Micah grabs her arm, begging her to stop fighting, but she tells him it?s for his own good and throws him off. Micah flies back and falls on the rocks near the shack, crying out in pain and clutching his right arm. D.L. pulls himself to his feet and rushes toward his son, calling Micah?s name. Jessica moves to stop him, but hesitates, uncertain. D.L. reaches Micah and Niki surfaces to gaze in shock at what her alter-ego has done. She rushes toward him, but D.L. stops her. Only after Niki has reassured him several times does Micah accept that the woman in front of him is his mother. Then, to D.L.?s confusion, he rises to hug her. Niki apologizes to both of them, and when D.L. sees how different she is from the woman who stalked him, he hugs her as well.
Football field, Union Wells H.S. Claire paces in the goal until Zach rides up. Official word from the school is that someone was killed the night before, but unofficially, everyone knows it was Jackie. Zach brought all the tapes Claire asked for. She dumps them out on the ground and crushes them under her foot. Zach agrees that they?re pretty well destroyed. He?s really sorry about breaking her out of the house and talking her into going to homecoming. She could have been killed. Claire knows, but he did it because he?s her friend; possibly the best friend she?s ever had. Zach figures he?s only been her best friend for two weeks. Claire kicks him playfully. Just because it?s pathetic doesn?t mean it?s not true. Her father just wanted to make sure that the evidence of her ability was gone, and that Zach wasn?t going to say anything about it to anyone. Zach crosses his heart and rides away.
Bus terminal, Midland. Hiro and Ando wait while a bus pulls up and Isaac gets out. Isaac approaches them and Hiro beams with wild enthusiasm, flashing the Vulcan greeting when Isaac says his name. They move into the Burnt Toast Diner, Isaac leafing through the issue of 9th Wonders that Hiro brought back from the future. Isaac hasn?t even sent it to the printers yet, so it?s proof that he actually went to the future. He?s astonished. He admits that his power is very strong too, but he can only use it when he?s. . . He has to use several phrases to explain his addiction, and then wants to know what else Hiro saw in the future. Hiro mentions the explosion and, with Ando?s prompting, Isaac?s own death by decapitation. Isaac is unsettled by this, but reveals that the head cutter has been taken care of. Hiro glances at the shrine to Charlie, and Ando explains that Hiro lost a friend to the brain man. Isaac thinks a moment, and then pulls a sketchbook out of his travel bag. He opens it to a page showing a few comic panels: Hiro and Charlie sitting and talking in the diner. He drew them two days ago, sober. Hiro says that stopping the explosion in New York is his destiny. Isaac is beginning to believe it is his as well. Hiro flips through his comic to a picture of x standing over a bloody body. Isaac recognizes it as a picture he painted on his floor. He also recently painted a picture of an exploding man. Hiro and Ando are taken aback. How do they stop an exploding man?
Bennet house, Odessa. Claire enters to find Lyle calmly downing a bowl of cereal. She calls for her parents, but neither are home. Since they?re alone, she wants to know if their father talked to Lyle about her. . . thing. Lyle looks blank. Claire hints at it different ways, but Lyle shows no signs of understanding what she means. Claire finally states that she can?t get hurt, and Lyle responds by punching her arm and laughing. It?s Claire?s turn to look confused. It?s not funny, but when she wants to know where her parents are, Lyle explains that their mother?s at work and he hasn?t seen their father all day. Claire?s confusion deepens. Their father was supposed to pick Lyle up from practice, and judging by the smudges of dirt on his face, he has definitely been to practice. Lyle denies their father brought him, but when Claire asks how he got home, he grows anxious and afraid before admitting that he doesn?t know.
Woods, Utah. Niki leads D.L. and Micah out of the woods. D.L. insists that there are doctors who can help Niki?s situation. He doesn?t believe that Jessica is stronger than Niki, even though he?s seen what she can do. He can?t explain her power, nor can he explain why Niki shot him. Niki corrects him. It was Jessica, and she?ll come back. She?s out of control; she could hurt Micah, or worse. Niki herself can?t be trusted. Micah himself calls for help. He?s fallen down. D.L. runs to him while Niki looks on. Micah?s alright, but still hurt from Jessica?s rough treatment. D.L. promises him they?ll get a hotel room where they can rest and get him patched up a bit. He calls to Niki, but Niki has left the case full of money behind and gone. D.L. sees her cross the highway to the rest stop where they parked D.L.?s car. A policeman paces there, and D.L. does not risk being seen in order to stop her. Niki walks up to the policeman and asks to be arrested for murder.
Primatech parking lot, Odessa. Matt and Audrey sit in a car watching the entrance to Primatech. Audrey doesn?t understand why a lack of noise merits a stakeout. Matt counters that she complains he never takes her anywhere. Audrey feels spoiled, but Matt just hands her some cutlery and tells her to eat her Tex-Mex. Audrey thinks he can be cute, and then blushes as she realizes Matt can hear her thoughts. Matt smirks, but says nothing while Audrey protests that he can?t read her mind. It was a stray thought, and he can?t do that. Matt laughs and wonders if she really thinks he?s cute. Audrey really thinks he?s married, and that he really loves his wife. Matt admits that?s true. Audrey doesn?t understand why he hasn?t called her to yell at her so he can go home. Matt doesn?t want to be a chump. Audrey figures that loving his wife after she?s fooled around on him doesn?t make him a chump. Throwing his marriage out the window without trying to make it work does. Mr. Bennet interrupts the conversation by coming out of the building. The Haitian approaches him. Matt recognizes him from the bar, just before he passed out and lost the whole day. Audrey?s confused. If he can?t remember anything, then how does he recognize the Haitian? Matt ignores her and concentrates on Bennet. Bennet and Haitian walk together across the lot, Bennet talking. Audrey thinks they should leave, but Matt ignores her again. He concentrates so hard that his nose begins to bleed. Finally, he gives up. He was only able to get one word: Sylar.
Football field, Union Wells H.S. Claire paces again until Zach rides up on his bike, demanding to know what the emergency is. Claire, tense and nervous, tells him that Lyle doesn?t remember a thing about Claire?s ability. It?s like the Stepford body snatchers, or something. Zach looks around. Is this some sort of cheerleader initiation thing? Claire grabs the bicycle?s handlebars. Something is really going on. Zach stares at her. She hasn?t spoken to him since sixth grade, and now he gets an urgent call from her? Is she damaged? Claire steps back, horrified. They?ve gotten to him too. Zach figures she?s on crystal meth, or something because she?s exhibiting some cracky behavior. Claire staggers back, turns and runs away despite Zach?s attempts to call her back.
Primatech?s hidden complex, Odessa. Sylar sits in the dark of his cell when Bennet opens the outer door. As Bennet slides some food into the cell on the food tray, Sylar taunts him. Bennet no doubt sees himself as a humanitarian, a hero, kidnapping special people. . . collecting them. He and Sylar are a lot alike. Sylar collects them too. Bennet smiles coldly. They?re going to take Gabriel apart, like one of his watches. . . no, timepieces. They?re going to find out what makes him ?tick.? Bennet turns off the lights and leaves.
Motel room, Midland Tx. Isaac stares at a blank canvas on an easel while Hiro and Ando look on. After a few minutes, Isaac sighs. He can?t do it. Hiro approaches. Yes, Isaac can. He needs to concentrate. Hiro demonstrates, jowls shaking and brow furrowed. Isaac agrees to try and closes his eyes with a deep breath. A moment later, he opens them. They are solid white, and he shucks his overshirt impatiently, and then begins feverishly sketching.
Bennet house/ S.U.V. Mr. Bennet?s cell phone rings as he drives along. It?s Claire, from her bedroom floor, frantic. She needs to know that he remembers what she told him about her abilities. He does. Claire remembers he said that people would want to hurt her, and she?s afraid they?ve already gotten to Lyle and Zach. It?s like none of the last two weeks ever happened. Bennet tries to calm her, and needs to know where she is. She?s home, alone. She realizes with some new fear that she has no idea where her mother or Lyle are. Bennet reassures her that she should stay there, and that he?ll be home soon. As they say their good-byes, the door to Claire?s room opens and the Haitian walks in silent and unnoticed. Claire hangs up and finds him suddenly standing over her. She jumps to her feet, but the Haitian grabs her and puts a hand over her mouth before she can either run or scream. He speaks in a quiet, careful voice. He works for her father, and Bennet has sent him here to make Claire forget, the way he has made her friend, and her brother forget, and her mother many, many times before that. Bennet will be home soon, expecting that Claire will have no memory of her abilities, the Haitian or anything that has happened, but it is important that Claire DOES remember. She must act as if she doesn?t, and he wonders if she can keep a secret.
Motel room, Midland Tx. Some time has passed, and Hiro and Ando lounge in the corner of the room, bored. Ando has no idea what they?re going to do when Isaac has finished painting. Neither does Hiro, but they should at least make sure that he?s okay. Isaac continues to work obsessively, ignoring them as they come around beside him and look at what he?s been drawing. Their eyes widen. Ando thought Isaac only painted the future. Hiro worries that he might step on a bug and change history. Ando figures he should worry less about changing history and more about imminent death. The painting shows Hiro holding up a katana before a charging dinosaur. Hiro eyes the painting. He needs to find that sword.
Suresh apartment, Brooklyn. Mohinder turns from examining his map to answer the phone. It?s Eden. She?s sorry. She lied to him, and she?s not who he thinks she is, and she?ll explain when she sees him again. She?s going to make things right, starting by killing the man who murdered Mohinder?s father. Mohinder begs her to wait, but she hangs up.
Primatech?s Hidden complex, Odessa. Eden flicks on the lights in Sylar?s cell. Sylar turns to see her standing against the wall outside the observation window, hands behind her back. He recognizes her. Eden admits she was Chandra Suresh?s neighbor. Chandra sizes her up, using his gift to see her wonderful ability to persuade people. Eden pulls her hand from behind her back. She has a gun. She lived next door, and Chandra never even suspected one of his special people was so close. Eden tells Sylar she?s going to put the gun in the food slot, and then her voice takes on a guttural echo as she uses her power. Sylar?s going to take the gun and blow his brains out. Sylar resists, raising his hand and telekinetically pulling Eden into, then through the glass between them. He?s furious. She knew. She knew what he was, and she let it continue. Eden hangs limply, partially through the glass, cut and scraped by its shards. He holds her neck in his hand. She actually helped him, and once he?s consumed her power, she?ll help him even more. Eden raises the gun. Sylar laughs, even from an inch away, she knows it can?t hurt him. She turns it on herself, and Sylar has a moment of disbelief when he sees what she intends. Then she pulls the trigger.
Holding cell, Odessa P.D. Peter sits hunched up on his cell bed as Nathan enters. The scene starts to play out like Peter?s dream, but when Peter asks what Nathan is doing, Nathan throws Peter a bag containing personal effects and tells him they?re going. They walk out through the squad room. Nathan already knows what happened: Peter got himself in trouble and almost got killed. Peter protests that he saved a girl. Nathan checks his watch, irritable and impatient. He?s glad Peter?s finally a hero and wonders if he?s got it out of his system now. Peter?s figured it out: he has these dreams, and when he?s around people with an ability, he can do what they can do. Peter coughs, and Nathan finally looks at him, noting that Peter looks terrible. Together, they walk out onto the steps in front of the police station. Peter rambles on about the cheerleader who can heal, and the policeman who can read minds: they?re like Nathan and Peter. Peter stumbles down the steps after Nathan. Peter has to stop the bomb. He has to save everyone. Nathan would settle for Peter just walking straight. Peter staggers and slumps to the ground.
A street, New York. Peter lies on the ground in a black trench coat. He gets up, finding himself at an intersection. The streets are deserted and everything is silent at first. Then he hears distant radio chatter, like a police car or fire truck radio. He wanders out into the streets. Cars crowd the pavement, idle and silent, their doors open with no sign of their occupants. A bicycle lies on its side, back wheel still spinning. Peter wanders further until he sees Nathan?s campaign headquarters. Peter heads toward it but stops when a car door opens and Mohinder gets out. Mohinder?s smile of recognition collapses as he looks down at Peter?s chest, then he ducks low and runs away. Peter turns back toward Nathan?s offices, but finds Matt in uniform right in front of him, one hand up to hold Peter back. Behind Matt, D.L. scoops up Micah, and then he and Niki hastily retreat. Matt backs away, his mouth shaping the words ?stay back, stay back,? although he makes no sound. Peter catches a glimpse of Claire running toward him through the stationary cars, and sees Nathan coming out of the revolving door of his office. Peter approaches Claire, but she stops suddenly, and her face a mask of grief as she looks down at his chest. Peter turns to see Simone approaching. He?s relieved to see her. Then Isaac appears, wraps his arms around her and tries to drag her back. She resists. Nathan approaches. Hiro and Ando look on, their faces sad. Peter looks down at himself. Claire mouths the words, ?I?m sorry,? and backs away. Peter raises his hands to stare at them. Simone screams silently as Isaac drags her back. Hiro and Ando move on, and Claire begins running away. Nathan walks up, his face grave with helpless concern. Peter?s skin begins to glow brighter and brighter. Peter throws back his head and screams as light erupts from every part of his body.
Sidewalk outside Odessa P.D. The image of Peter exploding becomes a mote in Peter?s eye, and then fades entirely. He?s lying on his side on the pavement. Nathan rushes over and lifts his head, trying to comfort him. Peter gasps that it?s all his fault. He is the explosion. His eyes lose focus as Nathan orders him to breathe. Policemen, attracted by the emergency, surround them. Nathan slaps Peter?s face gently and calls his name, his voice growing louder and more frantic as he receives no answer. . .
