Some people are fickle like that. I guess it is hard to understand from the hardcore loyal fans. I still shake my head that millions of people stopped watching because of a six week hitaus when a summer hitaus is so much longer. Losing interest doesn't make sense to me. LOL, yes, I am a biased geek but. Six weeks, vs four months...I mean seriously?
And is it really overkill when so many people don't even read the graphic novels? The hardcore fans will relish for more goodies. The fans that just watch the show probably won't care about all the goodies anyway. And about the six episode spinoff miniseries. It is just six episodes. I mean even I did a Spock-like raised eyebrow when I first heard about the spinoff, but that was when I thought it was another 22 episode spinoff that would run on another night. This is more like an extension. Yes, with different characters maybe, but it's a mini-series. Many shows have recently tried the extended season format to avoid repeats and hitauses. |

Hi Wingstef... hello all... I haven't posted in a long time, and I just feel like putting in my two cents on this one. First I have to say, I really miss the show. I can't wait to get the DVDs and for the 2nd season to start.
When I first read the article, I felt kind of angry about the attack on such an awesome show. This, of course, would be characteristic of an extremely biased view by a typical geek fan like myself. But, I also like to be objective about this topic. Certain points of the article sort of ring true. I mean, all of the by-products stemming from this show, the many character additions, etc. Could these factors truly sink the show? I really doubt it. As you said Wing, people who watch the show for the sake of its awesomeness probably won't be taken in by the toys, magazines et al. Personally, I am not at all interested in any of that. And the new characters... all the stories... all the people with powers... I don't think it's too much of a stretch to subscribe to the premise that out of the more than 5 or 6 billion people on the planet, that there might not be a few thousand who have developed powers. I think that this show caters to intelligent people who would see right through the hype to which this author refers. And I sincerely hope that they continue on this trend. Leave the toys to the children. Ciao |
