The Buzz : 'Heroes' At Comic-Con 2007

The Buzz

After weeks and weeks of a lull in the 'Heroes' buzz machine, the low humming has been cranked back up to an ear piercing BUUZZZZZZ!

Since the 'Heroes' panel this past Saturday, news sites and blogs have been reporting on, debating and drooling over everything from Spock, to Kevin Smith, to printed Graphic Novels, to new Heroes Video Games.

Rather than post umpteen different news stories, I'll try to recap the important info in this one super massive 'Heroes' at Comic-Con post. Oh yeah, you can also watch the 'Heroes' panel for yourself in the previous post.

Cast members in attendance included Jack Coleman; Noah Gray-Cabey; Greg Grunberg; Ali Larter; James Kyson Lee; Masi Oka; Hayden Panettiere; Adrian Pasdar; Zachary Quinto; Sendhil Ramamurthy; and Milo Ventimiglia.

Also on hand were new comer Dana Ramieriez, series creator Tim Kring, artist Tim Sale and writer producer Jeph Loeb who moderated the panel.

What we learned:

- Kevin Smith will write and direct and episode of Heroes: Origins (the 'Heroes' Spin off that will fill the gaps when the show goes on hiatus). Smith said he was contacted by Kring, and joked that he told him, “I would love to write and direct an episode about the two gay heroes…you know, the Japanese dudes. They’re gay, right?!” He later commented, “If you can do autopsy on a cheerleader, you can show a couple of heroes making out.” If you don't know who Kevin Smith is, you best get to Googling.

- UBSoft will indeed be creating a 'Heroes' video game as we reported last week.

- Jeph Loeb told us that Heroes: Origins will air at the end of April as six consecutive episodes. Origins was described as a stand-alone anthology that takes place in the 'Heroes' universe. Origins will use different writers and producers than 'Heroes' and will not be used as a way to bring new characters onto 'Heroes'. This is different from what we had been hearing when the idea for Heroes: Origins was first revealed.

- For whatever reason, Danny Bonaduce shows up (for publicity I'm guessing) to remind the cast members that once a hit show gets cancelled your life "kind of sucks for a while."

The panel ended with a montage of clips from Season 2 and Jeph Loeb ask that the audience keep what they saw a secret. (Click "read more" for a description of the montage)

SPOILER ALERT:

Quote:

The fast-paced montage of clips showed the characters all over world. George Takei appears to be reprising his role as Hiro’s father. It looks like Parkman survived his encounter with Sylar. Suresh is being followed again. Nathan has a thick beard, and is being reprimanded by his mother for “killing” Peter. There’s a dark, evil voice threatening the others. Claire cut off something that made the crowd gasp. And yes, there’s David Anders from Alias as a samurai.
